Third Eye Blind's second album will go a long way in helping the San Francisco-based band to shed their corporate-rock label. Less grandiose and obvious than their 1997 debut, the elegantly flawed Blue crackles with energy and dark humor, but doesn't wade in the same pools of gloom and despair as its self-titled predecessor. Frontman Stephan Jenkins has exchanged his intricate stream-of-consciousness musings for more streamlined soulful wordplay. The assertive, inventive guitars recall such big bruisers of yesteryear as Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, but without the heavy-handedness. "Never Let You Go," the album's standout, is as catchy as Rick Springfield's "Jesse's Girl," but with a raw edge and a snarling Jaggeresque rap by Jenkins. Smart, poppy, and ironic, Blue more than solidifies Third Eye Blind's standing as a band on the rise. --Jaan Uhelszki

In my opinion, this album far exceeds 3EB's debut album in every way and is my favorite of all of their albums. It is every bit as catchy and memorable as the debut, but with darker, deeper, and more personal songs. The album is very melodic and flows together beautifully. I would say that it is an advantage that the album was not as big of a hit as the debut, as it can be listened to without sounding like a greatest hits album. This is the album I reach for most when I want to hear 3EB and still ... Read More

This CD is awesome, when i first bought it back in 99 i thought it sucked cause i liked the more punk rock stuff. I thought this album was a little more pussy compared to the depute album. Upon second I mean 884th listen this album is so awesome.

Their poppy, mainstream debut album established them as the radio-friendly rockers with lyrics so catchy, even your Mom can't resist (innocently chiming "I took the hit that I was given then I bumped again" never ceases to amuse).
Then bam, out comes Blue, a sophisticated rock album that's not nearly as accessible or catchy but years more mature. Blue alienated casual pop fans expecting the first album redux and the band's "guilty pleasure" cachet made sure critics and other music lovers ... Read More

I like the album, but that's because I'm a softy. The production is still as spotless as it was on their debut; musically, they've fallen into the same pop/rock Venus fly trap that ensnares all but the best modern groups. "Ten Days Late" is fun ("Funny how you always cried out daddy," he says!) and there's a good line in "Camouflage" ("We walk along like a sequel/You're a cameo"), but it just isn't really good, particularly in comparison with their debut, which I thought was a knockout. Listening to ... Read More

I really love this album. I didnt listen to this untill the beginning of 2008, and I have to say that is a very good sequal to their self-title 1997 debut. Their most catchy song is Never Let You Go. A song about being alone is Deep Inside Of You, Anything is the first single on the album, but for some reason it did not chart on the hot 100 and or even on the top 10 on the rock charts. 10 Days Late was the last single released, and this one did even worse than Anything. My personal favorite on this album ... Read More
