Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: Wow. Twenty-six-year-old Jennifer Knapp has done far more than rest on her laurels for her much-anticipated follow-up to 1998's Kansas--the record is a subtle, yet stellar, leap forward. The songs have pop hooks that stick in your brain for hours; the music is tightly woven and expert, yet rarely too slick. Expertly produced by pal Toby McKeehan, layers of complimentary, warm sound surround Knapp's folk-bluesy, expressive voice like the foam atop a perfect latte. The lyrics are introspective and spiritual but they have this real-life quality to them, and that is her true gift. One has to struggle not to identify with Knapp when she sings, on "A Little More," of the struggle to live a Christian life: "A little more than I can give / A little more than I deserve / Unearth this holiness I can't earn." The only justifiable quibble is that, at 36 minutes, Lay It Down is way too short. --Mike McGonigal

I stumbled across Jennifer Knapp while trying to locate a sound similar to Natalie merchant/10,000 maniacs: and while there are a few similarities between Jennifer Knapp and Natalie Merchant - I do think that Jennifer has originality, and her own voice. does anybody really sound like Natalie Merchant? I mean there is the Innocence Mission, but even Karen doesn't sound like like Natalie on each song or, album.
On with the review: if you like singer-songwriter's with a sweet voice, and ... Read More

Jennifer Knapp is definitely missed on the Contemporary Christian music scene. Her Christian-folk music is engaging, and draws the listener into a place where soft, medium, and fast tempo songs draw the listener toward God in a way that is authentic and moving.
Songs like the title cut and Little More seem plaintive, evoking the times all Christians have when they need reassurance and comfort. Knapp has been taking some time off for the past few years. We will all be blessed when she returns. ... Read More

Jennifer Knapp does an awesome job again in her second album. Like 'Kansas', 'Lay it Down' has deep, moving lyrics combined with Jennifer's incredible voice. Her throaty voice is a delight to the ears. Her sound has a folk music feel to it.
I highly recommend this album.

Jennifer Knapp is an excellent musician, somehow managing to spin folk, rock, and Christian into one musical category. She has a distinct voice that is just gritty enough to grab your attention and soft enough to make it oh-so pleasant. I haven't heard a song by this artist that has fallen short yet.
While I haven't done any research on Knapp, I would have to guess she has studied music for a while. She seems to know how to write music and lyrics that stir the soul. Her songs flow quite ... Read More
