The good news: Bush haven't changed much since 1994, the year of their breakthrough hits "Everything Zen," "Machinehead," and Glycerin." The bad news: Bush haven't changed much since 1994. Still, fans of singer Gavin Rossdale's breathy, sexy, Bono-ish vocals will dig such songs as "Solutions," which finds the Brit foursome mining familiar musical and lyrical territory. While the album is not a revelation, it is a solid outing laced with cool contrasts, provided in part by the input and production of Dave Sardy (Marilyn Manson). From the melancholy "Headful of Ghosts" and the raw and rollicking "The People That We Love" to "Superman"--a lush, loose and expansive song, heavy on the metaphors--Golden State sounds stellar. On the mellower tip, "Inflatable" is lovely, sexy, somnolent, and atmospheric, as is "Out of This World," with hollow-sounding, almost tribal drums, sitar sounds, and industrial tinges. Bush move easily into wilder territory with the raw, powerful guitars of "Fugitive"; the edgy, frenetic drums and techno touches that mark "Reasons"; and the unexpected punk fury of the two-and-a-half minute "My Engine Is with You." While Bush's fourth outing may not break new ground, this Golden State is still planted on terra firma. --Katherine Turman

Cheap Nirvana rip off. An insult to Nirvana as the crappy singer does a crappy job of trying to be Cobain....your not GAvin nothing close and you never will be.

It's ridiculous that this album is so underappreciated. I forgot about Bush for quite some time while I got into metal but even once I got back into them I couldn't find Golden State in stores anywhere. Then I found out its only sold 300,000 copies. Sad considering its another great album. Bush does not disappoint. Just another step in their evolution that unfortunately ended not long after this release.

This cd is just as good as Razorblade Suitcase. There are some hit singles, most notably: "The People That We Love", which is my favorite Bush song since the days of 16 Stone. "Superman" is an excellent tune, and it is a solid effort throughout. They probably won some fans back with this one, but sadly, they have broken up since this released. Gavin has a new band called Institute, and he did some solo stuff too. I would check into that stuff if you are a fan. Institute has some good moments, but ... Read More

The more I listen to it, the more I like it. Great stuff! Sixteen stone was a great CD, and I liked the ones that came after that, but this is a return to the original great stuff, but still new.
