Amazon.com: You can't accuse Smash Mouth of not knowing which way the wind's blowing. If Astro Lounge moved away from ska-punk in the direction suggested by "Walkin' on the Sun," Smash Mouth follows through on the band's latest breakthrough, the ebullient cover of "I'm a Believer," which was playing everywhere in the summer of 2001. "If you're not down with us, you're down below," Steve Harwell sings in "The In Set," and he's only partly kidding. They can repeat themselves ("She Turns Me On" might as well be called "Walkin' on Venus"), and guitarist Greg Camp's songs have gotten, perhaps, a little less politically engaged--the goofy "Sister Psychic" concerns Miss Cleo. Still, they're mostly playing to their strengths: Harwell's inimitable Cali rasp/whine and their ability to switch styles on a dime every few seconds. (The collision of a three-chord garage-rock chorus with Barry White strings in "Pacific Coast Party" is especially juicy.) Only a couple of slow ones break up the lightweight fun. --Douglas Wolk

Two years after their multi-platinum hit Astro Lounge, Smash Mouth followed with their self-titled third album. "Smash Mouth" is a worthy follower to its predecessor, because the songwriting and production are right on par with the ingenious pop tunes of Astro Lounge. But where Astro Lounge was an experimental album that toyed with many different genres, from nostalgic rock to contemporary rock, reggae, and even hip hop, "Smash Mouth" is more musically consistent. On this effort, they instead stick ... Read More

I'm not as into Smash Mouth as I am into the Backstreet Boys, but Smash Mouth is actually really good. This is a good album by those guys. How many CDs do these guys have out right now? So far, I've only got two of them. I actually listen to this CD more than I listen to the other one. because it has more of a lively beat to it than the other one does. That's it for my review, and as always, I highly recommend this album to any one who's a smash mouth fan.

I first had Astro Lounge for about a year and I started to listen to it again, so I headed over to my local Sam Goody and picked this album up to hear more of their songs. I really appreciate Smash Mouth's music. It has a cool feel like the 60s music but modern. It is nice that they are doing something that nobody else is doing. This album is really hard to not listen to again and again. I like that fact that they have a positive feel, but they aren't saying stuff like "Jesus will save you." Smash Mouth ... Read More

Catchy tunes, fun lyrics and well produced music make the third Smash Mouth CD a winner, if a little short on the kind of songs that dominated the radio from the first two Smash Mouth CDs. You will discover that this CD is even milder than "Astro Lounge," with the lyrics capitalizing on the best aspects of that CD. Some fans of "Fush Yu Mang" may protest that Smash Mouth has moved too far into pop, but for those of us that like the retro sound this music is a breath of fresh air that blows away the cookie ...
