Ah yes. The early 80s slasher boom was a glorious time for fans of the genre. Some say 1981 was the peak of the boom, but a few good to great films and some underrated gems still squeeked by after that. "The House On Sorority Row" was released in 1983. Is it a great film?. Not necessarily. A good one?. Sure. An underrated gem?. I wouldn't say 'gem', but it is a good one for it's kind and provides a fun 90 minutes worth of 80s slasher fun. As for the title of my review, those who have seen the film ... Read More

What does it matter if its widescreen or not? See how terrible the remake is and I guarantee its not going to matter how the film is displayed on the tv. Paying 35 bucks for the old release is as bad as the remake!
For its time, it was a great slasher film. If you collect 80s slasher films then you will love it, if you are looking for a 5 star movie made recently, GOOD luck...most of them are HORRIBLE

The old Dvd from 2001/2003/2005 (whichever!) states its Widescreen Format(1:85.1) with a Running Time of 93 min and Rated-R.
The 2009 reissue DVD says its full frame with a Running Time of 91 mins and Unrated. (???)
I'm glad that this release date got pushed back until January 2010 so that maybe I'll just cancel the new reissue order that I placed, and order an older DVD print from a private collector instead!
This makes absolutely NO SENSE to me!?

This 1982 film is one of my personal favorite slasher movies! It was made in a time when there was still suspense in horror movies, and this one is suspenseful. It has non-stop thrills as well and every scene in the film is exciting. The killer is cool( dressed in a jesture get-up) and the female star Kate Mcneil(from MONKEY SHINES) is a great actress! Its filled with coool death scenes and stars like Harley Kozack(from Arachniphobia) and Eilein Davidson(from that soap opera...?) and has a great ending ... Read More
