The midtempo songs on Alice Peacock's self-titled album focus on folky pop-rock confections a la Sheryl Crow and Shawn Colvin. "Bliss" (featuring John Mayer) and "Imagination" (bolstered by Indigo Girl Emily Saliers) ride a midtempo mix of multiple guitars and harmony vocals, while "I Hear You Say" and "I'll Be the One" recall Faith Hill. "Alabama Boy," meanwhile, takes its cues from Joni Mitchell. "Into the Light" is a soaring slice of country-rock, the hidden track "Northern Star" a delicate stab at cabaret. Peacock's flowing grasp of various styles never sounds forced or fake. Indeed, her invigorating twists on standard pop make this collection a delight. --Annie Zaleski

She is an incredible singer and artist of words. This CD should be in anyone's collection if they are looking for new and up & coming folk singers.

This is a very solid 4 stars. The songs have very good lyrics. They are for the most part softer and slower, but with real feeling that keeps the attention, rather than getting tiresome. Alice is a good singer and her voice blends well with the restrained insturments. This album is definitely not overproduced. It is a dignified album with something to say. Whether this is her REAL name or not-you have to admit after listening to this CD that her music is ALL REAL!! Alice's strong yet lilting voice seems to surround you with a feeling of comfort and familiarity that you will not find with other performers. It's like having one of your buddies performing in your living room! She is an extraordinary talent, who manages to tell a story, somewhat the way Joni Mitchell did on her earlier albums. Alice shares bits and pieces of her life with you, and manages to ... Read More

Someone please tell me why this woman has not won a Grammy? I had never heard of Alice Peacock when I saw this album at HVM. But that little voice in my head told me "Your going to love it." And sure enough this CD has not left my cd player in like two years. I love it, love it, love it!!!
Can't wait for the new release in June!

Had Sheryl been singing these songs, she would have had five hits off the cd. Just a totally satisfying listen. Try parallel lives-you'll try the rest.
