Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: From the creators of Batman: The Animated Series comes DC Comics' polar opposite: the Man of Steel in Superman: The Animated Series, Volume One. Like the Dark Knight's series, Superman: The Animated Series is a successful, modern telling of the classic story. Superman's tale is already known to most people, enduring as a modern American myth. The challenge for the producers was how to make something old and familiar new again. Quite successfully, they managed to modernize the Superman environment and its characters enough to attract a new audience but also maintained the integrity of the mythos to satisfy longtime fans. What lifts Superman: The Animated Series above all past Superman shows is its high-quality animation, strong dramatic scripts, a star studded cast, and the creators' willingness to present the show more like a series than a cartoon. It begins with a three-part episode ("The Last Son of Krypton") chronicling the last days of Krypton, the introduction of Braniac, Kal-El's trip to Earth, his development into Superman, and finally his introduction to the world. These three episodes lay the foundation for the next 15 adventures that follow, including confrontations with rivals Lex Luthor, Metallo, Braniac, the bizarre Lobo, and others. For fans of Superman, DC Comics, superheroes, the comic genre, and action tales in general, Superman: The Animated Series is not to be missed. --Rob Bracco

but I only read Superman (my very favorite superhero) and Warner Brothers (come on, they did Bugs Bunny and the Roadrunner) so I jumped and bought not only the first volume but all three of them.
I am disappointed.
DVD Technical quality is very good and the stories are interesting but I cannoy see why Americans ( who practically invented the comic and animated cartoon genres) have to resort to this Japanese drawing style.
In my opinion it is just ugly, do ... Read More

I got this item for my son who loves Superman. He will actually sit down and watch the whole season. It is amazing.

This cartoon was a favorite of mine. When it came on for the first time, I knew I was going to be hooked.
As you have probably guessed, this particular show heavily makes use of the Bruce Timm animation style which made Batman look so darn good. Obviously this show is a lot brighter and overall lighter in spirit and is definately more child friendly, but the writing and production value is every bit as high.
The episodes are smartly written and well animated. The voice actors ... Read More

I'm a comic book fan. I liked the Batman animated series, and the Superman adventures added the world's most recognized hero to the DC animated universe. Volume one of this series brought a good basis to the Man of Steel. The shows in the first season showed us how intricate the animators version of Metropolis, the intricacies of the fight scenes, and they didn't overuse the kryptonite. Everyone knows Supes is weak to the rock, but you can't use it all the time. Throughout the series they show his ... Read More

This series is fantastic. It is so much better than the cartoons of my childhood, and my son became an instant fanatic over Easter weekend while we were visiting family. The kids started watching Superman, and that was it, he was hooked. The series is voiced by a whole slew of incredible voice talent including Tim Daly, Dana Delaney, Mark Hamill, Clancy Brown, Malcolm MacDowall, Kevin Conroy, just to name a very few. The animation and color palettes are great, very comic book true to life, only better. ... Read More
