Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Containing one of the most instantly recognizable intro sequences to a TV show ("Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!") THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN was the first attempt to bring the comic book character to television screens. Great cinematic characters such as Lois Lane Jimmy Olsen and of course Clark Kent himself were established on the show with Kent attempting to live an anonymous existence as a reporter for the Daily Planet by day but transforming into Superman the last survivor from the planet Krypton when trouble comes calling. George Reeves plays the Man of Steel in this complete collection of episodes from the second season of the show. Amazon.com:
Adventures of Superman - The Complete Second Season pretty much follows the formula laid out in the first season, building on what made the groundbreaking show so popular. For many fans, season two is the best of the series and it is easy to see why. Each episode has that strong "mini-serial-crime-movie" feel and was again scripted and shot to appeal to adults as well as younger audiences. This would all change once season three, the first color Superman season, rolled around and the producers would strictly tailor the show for children. The biggest difference viewers will notice in this season is the new Lois Lane. Fans had to say goodbye to the wonderfully tough Phyllis Coates, replaced by the perkier Noel Neill who would play the sassy and smart journalist for seasons to come. For many young girls growing up in the 1950s Noel Neill's Lois Lane, the first liberated woman presented to the TV audience in the children's market, was the ultimate role model. Highlights of season two include "Panic in the sky" (the episode many feel is the series best--where Superman saves Metropolis from an asteroid that also erases his memory), "Semi-Private Eye" (where Jimmy Olsen poses as a private eye to stalk the bad guys), and "The Defeat of Superman" (where Superman loses his powers thanks to a dose of Kryptonite). --Rob Bracco

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Better than ever
I didn't realize how much I missed these shows. The first season was fantastic, the reason I had to purchase all the seasons !! I am very happy with my purchases and have enjoyed the shows many times since receiving them.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best. Superman. Ever.
`The Adventures of Superman' (TAS) was made under difficult circumstances: almost no time, almost no money, and no CGI. Yet three things make TAS a timeless classic:

1) The recurring cast members were all superb, especially George Reeves as Superman. Reeves played the part with just the right combination of intelligence, righteousness, manliness, and, when necessary, gentleness. A WWII vet and former boxer, Reeves had a physical presence that implied strength and power. Reeves never ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - still as much fun to watch as when I was a kid.
I love so many of the old Television shows from the 1950's & 1960's but for bringing back good ol' memories of yesteryear few shows can match up with George Reeves in "The Adventures of Superman".
The second season continues to bring us more thrill packed episodes and in glorious black&white like season one.
DVD quality is good and extra's are fun to watch.
George Reeves is so wonderful as SUPERMAN.
Buy all six seasons. You'll be glad ya did.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Good Buy of Nostalgia
I am old enough to remember when these were new shows. I've had the pleasure of introducing my 10-year-old to first, the serial, then the first season of AOS. Now, we've been able to share in viewing the second season, and it has not disappointed.

George Reeves shows why he is the quintessential Superman. The episodes in season 2 really show the subtleties of his depth as an actor.

The effects are dated, buy they don't take away from enjoying the episodes. Panic in the ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Super Nostalgia
Even though the hard-edged grittiness has been toned down, the second season of TV's "Adventures of Superman" (1953) is great fun. George Reeves breaks through the small screen as the definitive Man of Steel in this memorable DVD set -- highlighted by "Five Minutes to Doom," "The Face and the Voice," "Superman in Exile" and the justly famous "Panic in the Sky." The special features are rather scant, but include the government short "Stamp Day for Superman" and a nice tribute to Noel Neill. Enthusiasts ... Read More
