I really liked the character, the Waffelbird. The cover art was just so pretty. I liked the desert machine - I wish I had one!

I was first introduced to this book in the 3rd grade, when my teacher began reading it to the class for an hour everyday after lunch. I never wanted it to end, and even when I read it today, almost 15 years later, I get upset when I finish the last page. The imagery is amazing. I truly recommend this book to anyone.

The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles is the all-time favorite book for my sons and I and we have read many, many books. We liked this book better than Harry Potter, Holes, the BFG, Chronicles of Narnia, etc. In fact, after the first time we read it, my youngest son told me that during school, this book was all he could think about. He was in second grade at the time. We have read it again since and both my boys (ages 9 and 11) still identify it as their favorite.
The main characters, three children and a professor, travel to a truly magical land in search of the last whangdoodle. The whangdoodles are near extinction because humans have lost their imaginations.

My daughter really loved this book. She is entering 4th grade and it was perfect for her. "Amazing", she says.

I purchased the book cause Julie Andrews is my favourite musical actreess.
And I was delighted with this story about dreams, quests and friendship.
Among a lot of stories wiith repetitive elements, this is a story with original (though non very spectacular) characters.
I love J.A.!
