This is the third book in the Narnia series. Like most people I assume, I am reading them in order; as such, I can now (at this point) say that it's my least favorite (as compared to The Magician's Nephew and the Lion, etc.). But it's not a bad book. There are some familiar themes, including Biblical analogues (Esther and Moses and Ruth maybe, I don't know - harder to see than in the earlier books), and there is cultural charm (this time it's the early 20th century notions of the Middle East as opposed to London and the English countryside that we see in the earlier books), children as moral heroes, and, ultimately, Aslan as Master. But it lacks some things too. Lewis seems to assume that the reader knows quite a bit about the whole Narnia tale - did he assume (correctly) that no one would ever read this book first? As with the other books, I read this one to my kids aloud. I was not as anxious to get to it every night, but they seemed to be as interested (although there were points in the others when they were literally on the edge of their seats with anticipation - not so here). If you read one Narnia book, don't make it this one; otherwise, you'll be fine.

If you are really interested in fantasies you will love this book. This book will keep you on your feet, especially with the lions, alligators, talking animals, and the most powerful Aslan.

Have you ever wanted to go to a magical place with talking animals? This book is about a royal boy named Shasta who's father is forcing him to get married. So Shasta runs away with an enchanted talking horse from Narnia and meets some new people on the way. Shasta is trying to escape to Narnia. Shasta has to go through many obstacles such as a town. This is an obstickle because people might find out it is talking horse. The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis is a great book if you love fantasy or the Narnia series, and if you like both this is the perfect book for you. How is Shasta going to keep the talking horse's secret? Will she ever make it to Narnia. Will she be found or give up and go back home? You will have to read the book and find out!
