This is one of my favorite books I have read. I would reccomend this book to anyone at the right grade level. My favorite part of the book is when Sashta learns that the horse, Bri, can talk. I enjoyed this book and I think others will too.

I just left Narnia yet again when, tonight, I finished reading aloud to my son the last two chapters of "The Horse and His Boy," and I already miss it. Yes, a lot of the action in this book takes place outside of Narnia, but the surrounding countries are just as interesting and richly developed, and some of my favorite Narnians met up with me in these pages.
This story takes place in the Golden Age of Narnia, when High King Peter is on the throne--in other words, some time before the end of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."
In a distant and cruel land, a young boy is offered a chance to seek a better life, by a talking Narnian horse--no less--, and he seizes it, only to realize he was not prepared for the sacrifices and dangers along the way.
Soon, in his adventures, the Narnian horse and his boy are joined by another Narnian horse and her girl, but that only makes things more difficult for our young, reluctant hero. As a matter of fact, it seems as if every time things are as bad as they could ever be, they just get worse.
But this is not a depressing book. It's a book of overcoming challenges; of finding more to yourself than you knew was there; of giving others the benefit of the doubt; of selfless sacrifice; of courage in the face of fear and impossible odds; of the importance of humility and of self-respect.
The surprise ending was not surprise for me--I'm a well-read adult--but my son didn't see it coming, and it wrapped things up quite nicely for this Narnian story with-in a story.

The Horse and His Boy was written by C.S. Lewis and many other books like The Lion, the Witch, the Wardrobe and most of them are a part of the book series, The Chronicles of Narnia, a fantasy series.
It is about a young boy named Shasta that lives with a fisherman named Arsheesh. One day Arsheesh sells Shasta to a Tarkaan. A horse named Bree from Narnia helps Shasta escape to Narnia. On the way they meet a girl and her horse, or as Bree would say it "her owner," named Hwin from Narnia. They were going to Narnia too. So they traveled together to Narnia, but an evil prince named Rabadsh plans to attack Narnia for their Queen Susan. They meet many people on the way like the monk, or the lady in the city. But a lion starts to follow them.
I really liked this book because everything has a reason why it happened. Like when the lion scrached the girl's back. This book is good for parents to read to their children but it would be very challenging for children to read by themselfs. I suggest this book to all ages.
C.S. Lewis. "The Chronicals of Narnia." 2004.

The Horse and His Boy
Have you ever wanted to talk to a talking horse? In this book the horse talks to the children. The children's names are Shasta and Aravis. The horses names are Bree and Hwin. This book is about these two children that want to get away from their guardians. When they're running away, they meet up in a desert while being chased by a lion while trying to get to Narnia. They get away, but it was a close call. They get chased two or three times by the same lion.
In the book I like the way the author,C.S Lewis, describes the talking horses and the kids. They told what color the horse was. Bree was a white with light brown spots and Hwin was light brown. Also what the kids looked like. Shasta was about 5' tall and was 11. Aravis was the same but she was a girl. I give this book 4 stars. This book was one of my favorite books The Horse and His Boy

Shasta and Aravis have suffered in Calormene and plan to take their talking horses to Narnia and the North. Shasta was living with Arsheesh a cruel fisherman that was constantly mean to Shasta and one day a tarkaan came and offered to by Shasta from Arsheesh. Shasta went outside and started talking to the horse about the tarkaan, but the horse started talking back and told Shasta that the tarkaan was one of the worst people in Calormene. They ran away and happened to meet up with a tarkeena, who was running away from a forced marriage, after being chased by a lion. They were both traveling to Narnia to be free along with their horses Hwin and Bree. They traveled through Tashbaan where they overheard the prince plotting to take over the small free countries Archenland and Narnia. The children and their horses traveled across the desert and when they finally reached Archenland they were attacked by a lion and Shasta was forced to continue on to Anvard. King Lune gave Shasta a horse and he eventually got lost in the fog. Shasta was found by Aslan and the by Prince Corin and King Edmund and they were preparing for battle. Shasta dressed in a dwarfs armor and he and Corin fought in the in the battle and then Shasta found that he was actually Corin's twin brother Cor. I really liked this book because of how the characters interacted and Aslan's role in the book.
I liked this novel because of how different the characters were from each other but that they still managed to get along. Bree was a talking war horse that wanted to have a poor boy riding him so that they could escape and they eventually became friends. Aravis was a tarkeena who was used to the lap of luxury and at first she wanted to have Bree to help lead them but she had no interest in having Shasta along, but they relied on each other and were honorable to their promises. Corin was a prince that had been outside the castle and Shasta was picked up instead of Corin, Shasta was able to get a good meal and some rest, when Corin came they got along very well and he was not cruel to Shasta but very nice and assisted his escape.
I liked this book because of Aslan's presence in this book. First Aslan brought them together by chasing them into each other. Another time was when Aslan warded of the jackals that threatened Shasta when he was out spending the night next to the tombs. Aslan was also accompanying Shasta when he got lost in the fog and revealed that he had been the lion that had brought him and Aravis together, he had been the cat that had protected him by the tombs, and had chased them into the hermits home.
I also liked this book because of the interesting scenes in the book. In the beginning when the horses are running from the lion and they kept running out of fear it was somewhat intense. When Shasta was in the fog there was a sound of heavy breathing but there were no footsteps and this led to Shasta believing that it was a ghost. In the battle over Anvard many people were wounded but Shasta and Corin were fine and Shasta found out that he was Corin's twin brother and that King Lune was his father as well.
I liked this book because of how Aslan appeared in the book and because of how Aslan appeared in the book and because of how the characters worked with each other. This book was brilliant because of the characters like Aravis, Hwin, Bree, and Shasta. This book was also good because of Aslan. I liked this book because of the interesting scenes in it.
