This fantastic story is about a courageous young girl named Sophie who is taken from her orphanage when she sees a giant. He takes her to giant country. Sophie is scared that the giant will eat her, but he quickly tells her he thinks that that is repulsive. He is the only giant that doesn't eat humans. Together, they make a plan to save the people of the world by capturing and killing the giants. Roald Dahl is a wonderful writer. This story is filled with all sorts of mixed up language and jollity that it is hard not to laugh out loud. Everybody has such distinct personalities that you fall in love with each and every one. Even the giants are horrible in a wonderful, hilarious way. This story is a fabulous coming of age story and is also about the triumph of good over evil. I highly recommend this book to children of all ages. Even children at heart will enjoy this wonderful story.

Do you believe in giants? Well if you don't the BFG by Roald Dahl is the perfect for you. It might even convince you that giants are real.
In this book a giant named BFG who blows dreams, and a little girl named Sophie are living in Giant town and having lots of fun. But they are not the only ones in the Giant town. There are other giants that eat children at night. Will they ever stop eating children?
My favorite part was when the BFG caught a bad dream using his net. So instead of blowing a bad dream on a child he put the dream on the other bad giants.
I do not recommed this book to second graders and younger because the BFG does not speak English grammar which may be hard to understand.

- BEST LISTENING TO BE FOUND !

Couldn't wait to write a rave review of this splendidly enjoyable audio book but AudioFile Magazine beat me to it. Their editors wrote: "In a perfect combination of plot and narration, Natasha Richardson has created a splendid rendition of a true children's classic."

In other words, she's wonderful!

Richardson took home a Tony award for her spectacular Broadway turn in Cabaret, and won a Tony nomination for her debut in Anna Christie. Film credits? Beaucoup. The Parent Trap, A Month in the Country, The Handmaid's Tale and The Comfort of Strangers.

There's no questioning her acting chops and she brings all to the fore in this stunning delivery of a beloved children's classic.

As many may remember, Sophie is an orphan who is amazed to discover that giants actually do exist. Not only that but some of them are very mean, so cruel that they "like to guzzle and swallomp nice little chiddlers."

However, there is an exception - the BFG (Big Friendly Giant). He's such a good guy that he and Sophie pair up to rid the world of the mean "troggle-humping giants." Why, the BFG is so nice that all he can eat is snozzcumbers, better known as really bad food. (No wonder Roald Dahl holds such an appeal for kids!)

So determined are Sophie and the BFG that they even ask the Queen of England to help them dispense with the kid quaffing big ones.

The BFG as read by Natasha Richardson is pure pleasure to be enjoyed over and over again.
