Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross

In association with Amazon.com
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - BEAUTIFUL
Absolutely beautiful. Alex Ross have captured the essence of each DC character in near photographic quality paintings.

This books shows of a collection of his work for DC. Not only that, we are also taken through the steps of creating the paintings. From the inspirations (Queen's album cover) to models to the layout, steps & final piece of art.

He also recommended a few techniques and reference books for any budding artists out there.

It's also interesting to know how Alex's talent surfaced at a very young age. His drawings when he was 3, 7, 9 were included. You can tell that way back then, the kid has talent.

Recommended for all fans of good art, not just comic lovers. It's worth every penny.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Myths Are Stories That Tell The Truth
This book covers the artwork of Alex Ross. The reader will appreciate the art as well as the artist as we get a quick glimpse into this young, bright, and talented artists. We learn where his passion for comic hero art comes from and a look into the process he uses to produce such works.

We also see the influence of his father, mother, and his isolation in a small city (Lubbock, Texas, home of the late musical artist, Buddy Holly). Alex's artwork brings a surreal quality that invocks awe. The only problem is the look at only the DC side of his commercial art; but the book is still worth five stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Simply amazing
I had high hopes when I ordered this book and was blown away by the art. Best I've ever seen. A must-buy for any comic book or art fan.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Alex Ross Rocks
Mythology is an appropriate title for this collection. Alex Ross has made great storytelling in comics even more highbrow. This collection illustrates how the pantheon of Gods found in the DC heroes can be made human by the great talent of Alex Ross. Chip Kidd does an excellent job personifying Alex in this book and in person. The photography in the book exemplifies the way Alex uses light to make his characters real.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome book!
For collectors of Alex Ross' work, this is a must! A pity that it just focuses on his DC Comics work but, no doubt, another book will appear at some point showcasing his work for Marvel & other comic-book studios.
Besides the art, the book also gives an insight into how Alex's mind works, what influences him & his art...For instance: it was interesting to read that Queen is his all-time favourite band!

It would be nice to see more books like this appear showcasing the work of other great comic-book artists...
