Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Rollins' Books are repetitive.
I think when James Rollins decides to write a new book, all he does is change the setting and the characters names. The plot remains exactly the same. It gets tiring after a while.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - good idea--very poorly executed.
I recvd this book with great enthusiasm expecting a highly enjoyable
sci-fi/techno thriller.
what I got was a script for one of those network TV or Sci-Fi channel
made for TV disaster "epics". (you know--the ones with Kim Delaney as
the bainy and beautiful scientist--perhaps Thomas Gibson as the stalwart
ex-military reluctant hero--and of course,the anagonist---an ex-military
hit squad leader with a grudge against our hero--plus the evil, opportunistic politician)
get the picture? this is the same recycled plot and people we have all seen dozens of times.the techno parts of this novel are simplistic and condecending.in short,my friends---you can do much better.if Mr Rollins
is taking suggestions--allow me to remind him that if he wants to write
a 3-4 hour television show--please be my guest.the dwindling number of us folks that enjoy a good novel expect and desrve some thought and some
depth. this book has very little of either.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Keep 'em coming
Jack Kirkland, former Navy Seal, is the captain of his own salvage boat that he and his crew use to scour for treasure and secrets of the sea. They begin this novel in the Pacific looking for a Japanese shipwreck that is rumored to have gone down full of gold. But their treasure hunting is interrupted by the sea floor opening up with major tremors making the entire region completely unstable. Simultaneously, countries along the Pacific Ocean are affected by these same tremors resulting in horrific earthquakes that cause mass destruction and death, including the crash of Air Force One with the US President on board.

Karen Grace is working on her doctoral thesis at Ryukyu University studying Micronesian Studies. Her interest was originally peaked by her grandfather's contention that there was once an ancient civilization now lost to modern world. Because of the earthquakes islands off the coast of Japan have seemingly raised up from the ocean displaying pyramids and other discoveries that appear to support the ancient theory. But what Karen doesn't realize is that her interest will attract those that don't want her to discover or reveal secrets from a long lost past. Her path will cross with Jack's and they will find themselves the hunted instead of the treasure hunters. They must use their experience and wit to outlast those that seek their demise.

Again, a solidly entertaining novel from James Rollins. Much of it is over the top and the end is completely bizzare, but it entertains the entire way through. These books are fun because there is enough factual basis to keep the reader going even though the story, ultimately, is complete fiction. It is a page turner and keeps the surprises coming all the way to the last page.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - A fairy tale
Definitively this book is a very bad fairy tale. For instance: The prologue has three chapters and the only one that matters is the Air Force One's chapter. So you can skip the other two chapters as well as the epilogue.

Once you just skip those three chapters, the book goes fast paced until the persecutions began. How many persecutions can you read in a book? So to keep this review short. After the third persecution you'll start to bore of reading.

But the book's finish is utterly preposterous. I don't know if there is or not a lost world -myself wrote a book about that- but traveling in time is just distraught.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good story from a great author
I love Jame Rollins's great action/adventure stories. They always contain the right amount of action, mystery and romance to keep the story alive.

In this book, Jack Kirkland, an ex-Navy Seal, makes an amazing discovery deep under the sea. This discovery coincides with a solar eclipse and the mysterious downing of Air Force One and the death of the president. Usually, Rollins's novels contain some scientific discovery that has the potential to change the world, and this one is no different. The action in this story is top-notch although i felt it got a little repetitive at times, especially when Kirkland meets an old rival. The whole plot of the story is great, but i feel that it started to stray from what it was originally about, again, when Kirkland battles an old rival. The characters are great. You feel truely connected to the good characters, and despise the evil ones. The ending of this book is great and was a total surprise. Sometimes you can easily tell how a story is going to end, but this one will catch you offguard.

Overall, this is a great action story and it fits well into Rollins's catalog. Not his best story, but its definitely one that you cant miss if you are a fan of his, or if you are interested in the action/adventure type of novels at all.
