Having been a Superman fan for awhile, some might say I had an edge in understanding or enjoying this book. Those people have obviously NOT read this book. It requires no background information on the subjects. All the information is given rigt to you. From the background of the main characters, to the necessary information on the most insignificant secondary character, you'll read it all.
The information is also presented to you in a easy to read yet professional manner, making it a good read for children looking for a hero to adults seeking childhood.
The greatest part of this book is it's ability to show you that any man... even one so close to being a god that he can almost feel his halo, has his limits. Not only do you get to see the man taken to those limits, but half the story is dedicated to showing you how he overcame those limits.
For anyone who loves a book that you don't want to put down, for anyone who is looking for that lost fantasy-loving inner child, and for anyone who has any kind of taste in books or love for a great hero, this is a MUST READ. Buy it, read it, share it with your friends.

It was all right. I didn't like how four different Supermen came to be, that was kinda dumb. I do like the fact that Superman wasn't killed by kryptonite or magic, but was just beaten down, like a mortal should be. The Batman: Knightfall story was much better.

The book seemed to please comic book fans more than everyday readers. Superman was this big hero and everyone liked him, except for a few people. The book was dully enjoyable and moved at a decent pace.

The story of the death of Superman and surrounding events before and after his return. This book would be like dinner without the dessert for the hardcore comic book reader, but Roger Stern does a good layout of Superman from his very beginning that even your grandmother could follow. As a so-so comic fan, I liked the stuff I didn't get in the comic book, even things that were completely different and I especially liked how it was explained that Superman basically died of exhaustion rather than leading the reader to believe he was pummelled to death. But my biggest complaint is the very reason the book was written: Why kill him just to bring him back? But I guess even teenagers like soap-operas.

I agree with someone else who did a review that if your not a Superman fan,it won't matter because this book gives you a backround of each and every character that will be involved in Superman's death.
