The Sonoma Diet: Trimmer Waist, Better Health in Just 10 Days!

I bought this book on the recommendation of the friend who is a dietician. It is a balanced, practical diet. If you've done WeightWatchers or any other good (e.g., non-fad) diet, you're probably not going to learn an awful lot that you don't already know. The problem is in getting started and in actually sticking to a new way to eat. This diet uses an interesting concept in portion control, rather than weighing, measuring and counting points, which can become annoying, the author uses specific sized plates and bowls and teaches you to "eyeball" the portions. I think it's a great, practical, well-written book.

I have been on a stand still in my weight loss for over two months. I am 24 yo, 5' 5" and weighed 155 when I first began stage one. To give you some background here, two months ago, I began dieting eating 1300 calories or less and working out 60min of cardio 5 days a week. The scale didn't budge, nor did I give up. But there comes a time when you have to try something new. Thats when I found the Sonoma diet. I was interested immediatly due to the variety of recipes. I have just finished stage one (10 days) and already I have lost 4.5 pounds. Now after being stuck at the same weight for two months. This is a godsend! I have found the diet easy to stick with though it is a little bit tough in the first stage. The recipes are fantastic and the portion sizes are perfect to keep me satisfied. I recommend this diet to anyone who wants to eat better, become more healthy and loose weight. I know I won't give up until I loose every last desired pound. Good luck!



Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Great information but it is too hard for "real life".
I know that anything worth having isn't easy but this book is too strict FOR ME. I am very happy for the reviewers who are having success but I have to wonder how many of the reviewers were able to stick with it long term. I did this diet, along with my husband, for a month. We felt a lot better and we thought this was "the diet" for us.

Because it is so strict we would have a slip up that would take us away from the diet and have such a hard time talking ourselves into starting again. My husband and I would look at each other and say "we need to get started back on the sonoma diet again" and we would both, in our hearts of hearts, hope the other one wasn't ready because we dreaded doing it.

In real life it is too difficult to maintain. I really believe the best diet in the long term is the diet that we can follow long term. This diet is too restrictive for me (us). Also, there is so much prep work on this diet. There aren't any easy meals. My shopping time and my food prep time increased a lot when I was doing the sonoma diet.

My husband and I are now doing weight watchers and I do try to eat more of the healthy foods I learned about reading this book. I just watch portions and still am able to eat foods that help me feel "normal" and not too restricted in my choices.

That said, there is a lot of great information in this book for healthier living. I wish I could do it because I believe I would not only lose weight but I would be super healthy. Also, the recipes are fantastic!!

I had a hard time deciding on how many stars to give this book. I gave it 3 because I think it is well researched, well written, and super healthy but if it is too difficult to maintain I can't give it 5 stars.

I have been on this diet (wave 1) for 10 days. So far I have lost 10 lbs. Today I begin wave 2, hopefully with the same results. I don't get hungry, and I am eating healthier than I ever have.

One of the easiest diets I've ever tried. Easy to follow and maintain. Lost weight and am keeping it off. A new stye of eating. Healthy!
