The Sonoma Diet: Trimmer Waist, Better Health in Just 10 Days!

In association with Amazon.com
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - the sonoma diet
this is a great diet book, but it will become a lifelong recipe book. everything I have tried has been so good. the seasoning for the recipes makes them really mouthwatering and they are flexible as to using fresh or dried. My husband is diabetic and has heart disease. his cardioligist has told him to go with a mediterranen diet and this is excellent. I can't wait for the cookbook in the fall!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - very good
This book give me alot of information to help me have a healthier body and better weight. I have tried so many diets because my biggest problem is I have a back injury and I can't do any hard excersice so the diet really works even if you aren't able to excersice.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Need Single Serving Sonoma Diet Recipes!
I flipped through this book and thought it sounded like a yummy way to get the refined sugar out of my diet. So even though I'm fit and don't really need to lose weight, I started off with Wave 1 (the most sugar free wave, and also the lowest calorie). I have to say that even though I really liked the Wave 1 recipes, the menu just didn't work for me. Because my boyfriend's a vegetarian and I'm not and we are on way different schedules, I was only making these dishes for myself. So if something said "4 servings," and it wasn't easy to divide, I generally had to eat it for 4 days. And because it was just me, I had to use recipes that required the same ingredients in an attempt to use up everything I bought at the market (and I still wound up with a lot more groceries than I could use, even though I planned very carefully). Needless to say, this got really monotonous! In addition, I exercise nearly every day, and I guess I do so at a more intense level than most because I was too weak on Wave 1 to work out like I normally do. I had to add the extra snack to keep my energy up enough to work out at any reasonable (for me) sort of level.

After about 5-1/2 days I couldn't take eating the same foods every day and I wanted to go back to my usual workouts! So I bailed on Wave 1. And since I was using the diet to eat healthier and not really to lose weight, I pretty much have just kept to the Wave 2 and 3 ideas. (Sans the wine - I'm not a wine person.)

All that said, the diet did help me realize that there's more to life than sugary coffee drinks in the morning, so I haven't gone back to that old habit. And I rediscovered the beauty of fresh food (something I've been forgetting about over the past few months). The book also helped me get back in the habit of snacking on things like fresh veggies and hummus, or grabbing a handful of nuts instead of sneaking a few spoonfuls of frozen yogurt from my boyfriend's stash. All this is very good!

And I still swear by a lot of these recipes! They are great! (When I had the Easy Balsamic Chicken with organic, free range chicken breasts, I thought I was going to die from pleasure. And I normally HATE chicken breasts!) They're just not made for people who eat solo. Seriously, if the author could come up with a "Sonoma Diet" recipe book containing nothing but one or two serving recipes, I would so get it!

If someone actually wants to lose weight, and they are serious about changing their way of eating (which is the only way you'll keep the weight off), I can see that this book could really turn things around. This book really does inspire you to eat better. And the recipes are tasty enough to serve to your family, even if they're not dieting and don't want to. Because of this - and because I'm actually still using the book - I'm giving it 4 stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Sonoma Diet Works!
I started this diet a skeptic. I wanted to lose at least 20 lbs, but I wanted to do it eating "real" food. I wasn't interested in a fad diet that required skipping food groups or eating prepared meals. I needed a plan that I could adapt into a lifestyle change once I reached my goal. I first read about the Sonoma Diet in a magazine for new mothers. What hooked me was the fact that the plan includes a glass of wine with one meal after the first 10 days of the diet (if you wish.)

Seven weeks later, I am one pound away from reaching my goal. I've lost 19.5 lbs, and it hardly feels like I've been dieting. I won't lie - the first 10 days of the diet (Phase 1) were hard. I felt tired, hungry, & lacked energy. That quickly changed once I entered Phase 2, however. Now I have more energy than ever, probably due to my weight loss. The Sonoma Diet has taught me appropriate portions using the size of my dishes as a reference. The biggest change is that I've eliminated refined flours (white bread) from my diet, but I've found that I actually enjoy whole wheat bread products better anyway. Although sugar & desserts are actually banned on the diet, I indulge once every weekend as a treat and I've still been losing weight steadily. Every recipe I've prepared from the book is outstanding and flavorful. In my mind, those recipes are the key to success on this diet - they're so good that I'm enjoying my meals even more than when I was on the diet. My family eats the same food I prepare, I just watch my portions more carefully than they do.

Depending on your previous lifestyle, there IS a fair amount of meal preparation involved. You will need to buy a lot of fresh produce on at least a weekly basis. Some of the ingredients are expensive, but it's a worthwhile investment. You'll need to stock up on some pantry staples like extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, and kosher salt which are used in most of the recipes. If you're used to preparing dinner most nights of the week, it's really not that much of a change. I've found that I usually have enough leftover dinner for lunches the following days. Breakfasts are simple & satisfying - you can choose from whole grain cereal, eggs, and whole wheat toast.

Since my goal was so easy to reach, I'm planning on losing another 5 - 10 lbs. I would definitely recommend this diet to anybody. I'm looking forward to purchasing the Sonoma Diet cookbook later this year.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - This is a pretty good diet book
I liked this book and recommend it for the following reasons:

- The recipes are very good
- Rather than feeling like a diet, it just seems to be a healthier way to eat
- The foods are natural

I wil say on the negative side...the recipes are time consuming and can be costly.

It's been about 10 days for me and I have lost 8 pounds so I can't complain so far.
