The Sonoma Diet sounds good, but the recipies are difficult to follow, expensive, and hard to prepare. It doesn't allow for much flexability either.

Whether you are interested in losing weight, or just looking for delicious, healthy recipes, this is definitely a book to try. My mother-in-law and her husband started this "diet" first, and when they'd invite us for dinner, we fell in love with the food! We thought the dishes were a little on the gourmet side, and they take some time to prepare and cook, but are well worth it! We love the South Beach books, too, but Sonoma actually allows and gives you the wine pairings for each dish. These are not "tiny" portions, people! They are the RIGHT portions, but will not leave you feeling hungry. Mixing meal plans from this book and South Beach, all 4 of us had great success losing and maintaining our weight.

I recommend this diet. It is a great lifestyle change. The diet is easy and the recipes are great. I have lost 10 pounds in 25 days. I never felt unsatisfied. I am planning to make this way of eating permanent.

I've found other diets are better to truly shed multiple pounds, but this diet works well to keep the weight you've lost off in an enjoyable way. I lost 95% of my excess weight with Atkins, but was advised by a doctor not to make Atkins a lifestyle - the Sonoma Diet is my lifestyle answer. The diet is pretty easy to stick to - but food preparation will take a bit more work. However, you can get the hang of it and find your way of streamlining food prep within a busy schedule (many pre-packaged foods won't pass the label-test). A real benefit of this diet is that it is real food and it won't even look like you're dieting; you can feed the dinners to your family. A real strength of the diet is helping you to understand proper portion sizes - you can go back to eating out sometimes and after a few weeks enjoy wine and alcohol in moderation; a very workable solution for real people. I recommend this to anybody looking for a healthy way to stay trim while enjoying food and life. BTW: the follow-up cookbook has pictures and easier recipes (my family prefers the newer recipes).

When I bought the Sonoma Diet book, I was ready to make a healthier lifestyle change for my husband and I. I had packed on a few pounds and so had he. I liked this diet because it's all about instilling a well-balanced diet with the right portions. I'm 8 days into wave 1 and have already lost 12 lbs. The first couple days I was hungry, but after you get throught that it's much easier. What also impressed me was how delicious the recipes are, and there's a decent amount of ingredient overlap. We're actually saving money on groceries from not buying prepared/processed food. I'm already looking forward to my first glass of wine!
