For any fan of Batman or Comics in general this is a must have. This graphic novel was one of the first Comics I bought and I loved it. When this special edition came out I pre ordered it as soon as I could.
This is basically the origin of the Joker, it also has one of the biggest events in Batman Mythology. In this story we not only get to see what started the Joker on his mad rampage but we get to see just how Far the Joker can push Jim Gordon and Batman. The art work is amazing and the story is even better. I wont give to much away because it should be apart of everyone's comic collection. The special interviews with the writer and artist are fun to read at the end. Great product and Amazing story.

Batman: The Killing Joke was a good read, but it was not the "amazing" story I expected. With the statement by Tim Burton on the cover and the fact that it was written by Alan Moore (who they say in the afterword was really not that into it), I expected this graphic novel to be mind blowing. However, the book lacked a certain "pop" that is often found in Batman/Joker episodes. It was definately worth reading but borrow it from the library.

After I finished this for the first time, I was ready to dismiss it out of hand as being too short and simplistic. But as I thought it over, the more I realized there was some real depth to this story. Seeing Mr. Moore's suggested origin of Batman's nemesis suggests--at least to me--a reason behind Joker's apparent madness, and that adds the aforementioned depth to this story. And the last panel certainly doesn't hurt it either.

Alan Moore has this amazing ability to take a simple idea and flip it upside-down to analyze things for the rest of the world. His work in Watchmen really brought about a lot of thinking for the reader. To bring so much reality to his stories makes the reading a million times more worthwhile. If you read this novel or Watchmen, you WILL want more Alan Moore. His writing is one of a kind and he is his own dark, unique machine.
The Killing Joke is really an entirely new take on the Joker. Moore's portrayal is absolutely fascinating and I wore the Joker's grin half the time reading it. I like writers that don't simplify these villains and instead they write gruesome scemes and elaborate insanity within these characters. After all, whats the point of a villain if he isn't genuinly threatening. The Joker in this story is one of the scariest incarnations of him. Seeing this frighteningly epic story unfold was extremely joyful
Notice I didn't really mention Batman. Batman plays a significant part, but the Joker really takes the spotlight. If you are looking for a graphic novel along these lines, then look no further. One of your favorites is waiting to be read.
