I'm still not quite sure what to make of this....
I've been going over and over again how I should rate this book. I'm still at some what of a crossroads. It is so hard to think about this book as one entity and not the seemingly endless things that lead up to it. For that, this book is poor. I was lucky to have been able to read from Identity Crisis (an EXCELLENT book), but the "Countdowns" except for "OMAC", really let me down and left me disappointed by the time I start Infinite Crisis (especially the over-rated "Villains United"). It was way too built up for what it was. Not to be too critical, it had some good moments. The art was good. Some of the story was stronger then others. But when you beat it to death with crossovers and build-ups you tend to turn some people off. I did think it was time to clean up the continuity of the Modern DCU. Some things have been sketchy. But it didn't have to be in the form of a sequel to the story that caused the first major shake up. What's next "Crisis Infinitely"? The next time DC streamlines the universe again; will it be the same character and story devices from the 80s? I hope not. I for one really didn't care what happened to Superman-2, or Superboy, or Alex. I was glad they were gone. We don't need two Supermen. Things were going just fine without the old one. I guess what I'm getting at is this: it's a fun read, good art, but lacking in the build-up it got. The story seemed to run away from them.
By the way, Power Girl is hot!

i'm a huge dc fan. i grew up as a dark knight returns and kingdom come-era devotee of dc. i've always felt that marvel and other publishers don't have any characters to match superman, batman, wonder woman, the flash, or green lantern.
but i'm starting to change my mind, and it's because of junk like this.
infinite crisis is a total shambles along the lines of previous cr%p work crisis on infinite earths. no one wants to read this junk. 98435 supermans, etc. it's stupid. plus instead of relying on a tightly written script going in depth with a solid core of characters and villains, dc seems to like flying off in a billion directions with a billion characters you've never heard of and don't care two tosses about.
dear dc writers (which mean g. johns as he apparently writes all of dc's stuff): you don't need to try and impress anyone by bringing in all of the obscure characters you can think of. we don't care.
i've recently started reading classic marvel lee-kirby stuff and it has made me a marvel convert, and this is from someone who for 3 decades had complete and utter disdain for marvel and all it's characters. now i'm thinking nothing dc has can match the hulk, the fantastic four, the avengers, the x-men, captain america, etc. except marvel doesn't make good stories like that anymore either (except whedon's astonishing), now they make equally bad junk like house of m. i can't comment on civil war because i'm probably the only person on earth who hasn't read it. it frankly sounds like a retread story of old ideas more than anything else. i have hope for world war hulk at least, but i'm sure i'll be proven wrong. what's the real problem with comics today? the big two publishers refuse to take any real gambles at all, they kill off minor characters that no one cares about (oh how shocking is that really?), they rehash old stories and ideas and pretty them up figuring no one will notice, and they don't do anything at all risky with established franchises or characters because they make too much money in outside ventures (movies, toys, etc.) with those properties and will continue to do so.
well hell...

this book was the best mini series so far from dc. nothing less than the best that i expect from the DCU. 5 stars...

As a young teenager, Crisis on Infinite Earths made a big impression on me. I was a big Wolfman-Perez fan from the New Teen Titans, and was amazed with the effort that went into the Crisis storyline. So I was naturally curious about the Infinite Crisis product. Though I'd always wondered what ever became of Alex Luthor-Lois Lane-Superman-Superboy Prime at the end of Crisis, I quickly realized that Infinite Crisis was a serious mistake and those four characters should have been left alone. The corruption of Superboy Prime and Alex Luthor was not believeable, nor was the duping of the Earth 2 Superman (The Greatest DC Universe hero of all time!) obviously forced in order to make the Infinite Crisis storyline go. So I cannot recommend this weak book.

If you're a DC fan and had the chance to read Crisis on Infinite Earths and enjoyed it, you can't miss this. Reading this was like going back in time, when I was a kid and could enjoy that saga. The story is amazing and honors the previous series. You won't regret buying it. I liked it so much that I bought Crisis on Infinite Earths the following week also here at Amazon. Buy both if you've got the chance, it's awesome!
