The packaging description leads the customer to believe that this book contains the entire story. However, DC felt the need to cut over 100 pages from the story, presumably in order for it all to fit in one book. Much of the material they left out comes from the story's second act, entitled "Funeral for a Friend," (or in book form it is collected in the "World Without a Superman" softcover). The content DC cut out is vital for the reader to understand what is going on. If you are interested in reading this historic comic book event in its entirety, I would suggest you buy the 3 separate softcover editions, which collect every issue:
1. The Death of Superman
2. World Without a Superman
3. The Return of Superman
4. Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey
That last one is an epilogue of sorts, and is not crucial to the story, but it is a good read if you enjoy the previous volumes. The story itself is good, though it occasionally seems overdone for the sake of publicity. In my opinion, it's definitely worth buying for fans of Superman or comic book culture. Why did DC cut out so much crucial story? I don't know. Why does DC claim this is the whole story? I honestly cannot tell you. The story is good, but this collection is not.

This is a good book. I really like that it is a big hardcover. I am a lover of all comic books. But I pretty much only read graphic novels (Trade Paperbacks) because I like my stories collected in one. This book has the whole story of how Superman dies and comes back, hence the title. It is written well. Superman is probably the biggest single character in all of comics. So this tale of course is very important and a must read. Some parts were a little dry that's why I did not give it all the stars, but still a fantastic book. Took me awhile to finish it. All in all you need this for your graphic novel collection if you have never read it you cant call yourself a true comic book connoisseur!

I can't believe how swept up into this whole thing I was back then. Now, having the chance to read through and see the whole story and art as a collection, I must say:
IT SUCKS!
The art is lousy. The writing is ridiculous. And the story is just so full-of-BS-stupid that anyone paying the $75.00 cover price of this book deserves to get owned. If you loved this as a kid when it came out, it's pretty safe to say that if you've become any bit more intelligent or have at least matured in your tastes of writing, art, and storytelling over the years, you'll loathe it now.
I'll add that this isn't a very nicely done hardcover either. The cover image, the presentation, the 'special features'... it might as well have been a paperback. Looks like DC was swinging for the fences when all they got was a foul. Aside from the "Absolute" editions, Marvel destroys DC when it comes to hardcover editions.
All I can say is that I'm thankful for getting it so heavily discounted on Amazon. Now I shall promptly put it back up for sale.

It was one of the greatest superman sagas. Have it collected in one perfect volume it's the greatest choice.
It lacks more behind the scenes stories....BUT IT IS GREAT.
Recomended if you lose it on the 90's

A lot of talk about paper quality. Look past it. This is a story worth reading. I agree that it deserved the absolute treatment, but I for one am still glad that it was at least in the omnibus format. Glad to own it and I am sure you will be also.
