JLA/Avengers

In association with Amazon.com
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - DC & Marvel..Their Finest Moment!
After the proposed project was delayed way back in the 1980's, the two major comicbook companies (DC & MARVEL) finally got their **** together 20+ years later, and the JLA/AVENGERS Cross-Over finally got off the ground. It was worth the wait because [they] made it into a "4-Issue Event" (in its initial release). Now it is published into trade paperback combining all four issues from the talents of Kurt Busiek/Writer & George Perez/Artist using the major characters of DC & Marvel. This is the most fun you'll have in reading comics. Imagine if [they] adapted THIS into a movie?! It would be heaven for fanboys and moviegoers alike!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - superman versus thor
as a fan boy of comics the dream crossover ive waited for for years has finally taken place avengers versus the jla the story felt abit like been there done that however the fights were fantastic superman going up against thor ,instead of the hulk for a change was different, the outcome was pretty much as predicted with supes winning but thor still gave as good as he got, and the captain america batman showdown sublime matching two equals with each character realising the skill and experience of the other, superman was a jerk in this story and i felt he wasnt protrayed correctly by the writer as the icon he has been over the years generally superman tends to give people the benefit of the doubt not so with the avengers where he spent most of the story insulting them, i felt that he was made out to be a bigot not a 70 year legend with a big back history of good stories and wonderful writers . as for the story itself it felt to much like contest of the champions which i read many years ago with the players names just being different, i digess however and would like to compliment george perez on his usual great artwork i still remember his work from teen titans all in all a good story with great artwork i just feel these two greats could have done better like alex ross and kingdom come did that was fantastic , having said that this trade paper back makes a good read on a rainy sunday afternoon down here in new zealand thanks guys for reminding me why i love comics after all these years of collecting .

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Absolutely Breathtaking.
Absolutely breathtaking. It's been years since I've bought a comic book but debates with co-workers over DC and Marvel hero battles prompted me to do a little research. After reading numerous fanboy rants on several sites, I decided to check out some crossover action firsthand. I purchased DC Versus Marvel Comics and decided to grab JLA/Avengers at the last minute. I can't put this comic down. I've been away for a long time but George Perez is still amazing. I used to love his artwork in The New Teen Titans series and some of them pop up in this book. In fact, there are countless cameos by many of DC and Marvel's finest and I love it. Let's get back to the artwork though. I start reading and I end up flicking pages and salivating over GP's renditions. Tom Smith's inks are on point as well. This may be the greatest comic in my collection and it more than makes up for many books that I've lost or were destroyed. This one goes in plastic as soon as I finish it but that may take some time. I just can't put this baby down.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Very superficial
I thought that the dialogue of the Avengers was very juvenile; it seemed that Hawkeye, Cap, and Thor didn't like the idea that the JLA were well respected by their world. Rather than trying to solve their problems and work together like adults (as Scarlet Witch intimates), Thor unleashes a savage attack on Superman--and for what purpose? I am looking forward to Supes teaching a little bit of humility to the god of anger and hubris. Perhaps the comic illustrates the one of the common problems we readers experience in the real world: we fight with our fists rather than with our ideas. The storyline is pretty good, I would have liked to see the Martian Manhunter actually intelligently communicate with the Watcher. If I were part of the cast of heroes, I would have seriously questioned the story they were given by these demigods. So much for logic, but the artwork is good, except Aquaman appears with both arms in one scene and with a spear prosthetic limb in another scene--very sloppy.
