While I at first eagerly awaited Winick's arrival on a book I had been reading for some time, I found his Green Lantern simply bad. In our first issue, we are introduced to a variety of new supporting characters we don't care about. I didn't mind the new faces as much as I thought it was kind of forced on me. I also thought the character Nero was a hollow antagonist, and while a good effort to give Kyle an arch-nemesis, it just didn't work.
On the other hand, the art is well done, and does much to solidify an otherwise weak story.
Winick may have done great work in the world of personal drama, but it doesn't transfer into super-hero success. Next writer, please.

Although Judd's pacing in the first few issues of his run were a bit off, he does eventually learn to smooth out the books pacing. He introduces growth in Kyle like we never saw in the past seven years under Marz. Finally, Kyle learns to use the power ring in more "imaginative" ways than just plain constructs. I'd definitely want to pick up the start of what I think will be a better GL run.
