3. You can't watch Superman Returns if you watch this.
2. Nuclear Man, they had Bizzaro in the movie but they replaced him with a blond haired weirdo that never even appered in the comic adaption.
and 1. Weak plot, it sounded like a good plot for a 60's Batman movie sequal (I still want a DVD release of the TV show though) but not for a Superman movie. Sorry Christopher Reeve (He made the Plot) it's just too campy for even Adam West's Batman.
Though I can't wait until the NEW Superman Movie for 2009, do NOT watch this movie.

- Depressing end to the Chris Reeve Superman films
Superman 4 was conceived by Chris Reeve as a great return to the orignal quality of the first 2 and hopefully to get the sour taste out of everyone's mouth's of Superman 3. What was delivered is a movie in shambles filled with plot holes galore and literally a fun house of 2nd rate special effects. The budget for Superman 4 was slashed in half by the now non-existant Golan Globus and the effects in this film are actually worse than what you saw in Superman the movie even though it was released 9 years prior to Superman 4. The plot is terrible Chris Reeve conceived a story about Superman saving the world from nuclear war by disarming the planet. Not a bad idea but the screenwriters did an awful job building upon that concept. The commentary by Mark Rosenthal one of the screenwriters is worth a listen because he is honest about just how awful the film is and tries to defend very little about just how lousy the production of the film was. Overall lousy movie and a tragic end to Chris Reeve's legendary portrayal of the Man Of Steel.

Bought this as part of the 14 disc collectors edition, and found Superman 4 is now 86min, and NOT 89 min as seen in the cinemas-THIS IS EVEN WORSE!

However, the audio commentary by Mark Rosenthal is worth listening to, who explains the real reasons Superman 4 was below par and ultimately went down the bog pan. The deleted scenes are OK-some are quite hilariously cheesy and some OK and should never have been left on the carpet. The deleted scenes mount to only 30mins-so where are the remaining 15 mins to make up the full 134mins?

Things about the Superman 4 film i thought:

Nuclear issues is an interesting idea that could and should have led to an excellent story

The morons who butchered 48mins from the intended 134mins of Superman 4 should never be allowed to make another Superman film. Of the many, many scenes that were cut, the overall plot seemed lack a lot of cohesion that were possibly essential in jelling together all the issues raised in this film. Thus, the final 86 min cut gave the impression of a rushed film. I mean jesus, what the hell happened? Superman 4 should well have been as good as Superman 1 and 2

Why throw nuclear missiles into the sun, why not just throw them into outer space and watch them spectacularly explode in a brilliant flash of light? Remenber the H-bomb in Superman 2 which was terrific?

Shouldn't nuclear man be chasing Superman if Luthor has instructed nuclearman to kill superman?

Superman's mortar vision used to rebuild the wall of china added to the cheesiness and silliness of this film-best to leave out this power

Superman should be fighting Lex Luthor rather than some dumb overgrown synthesized nuclearman

nuclearman grown from superman's genetic material should have the same intelligence as superman i.e. talk normally!

best to have a brutal and bloody fist fight between superman and nuclearman without them looking like overgrown kids in their action sequences

I guess with the new Donner cut of Superman 2 after 26 years, we should expect a new superman 4 entitled "Superman 4-The Quest for Peace:The Remake"!!! After 26 years i bet this will happen-It will be a cinematic first!

- Deluxe Edition worth a rent for commentary, deleted scenes
I bought the 14-disc "Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition" which includes the new Deluxe Edition of Superman IV. If you didn't go for the collector's edition, in my opinion this movie is not worth buying -- it is as bad as you've heard. But the new Deluxe Edition, released by Warner Bros. on Nov. 28, 2006, is worth a rent: watch it with the audio commentary by co-screenwriter Mark Rosenthal, who is very forthright regarding the production problems this movie faced, that ultimately contributed to its failure. Also interesting to look at are the deleted scenes, if only as a curiosity. Most of them certainly deserved to be cut but there are two or three that aren't too bad. The two deleted scenes involving the "first" Nuclear Man (who was completely absent from the final cut) are worth a chuckle - or a groan - for the completely cheesy electronic music that plays whenever he's on screen.

I know the movie wasn't good to some people . But i liked it since hey its superman its christopher reeve . Reeve is back for the fourth and final time as the man of steel to rid the world of nuclear weapons and lex luthor is back and is up to no good this time instead of otis theirs his naphew lenny .

The Tornado Scene & Russia Scene were the only ones that i didn't like but they were better to see on the tv versions .

Well the dvd is okay we finally got our wish about seening S4 Deleted Scenes . My favorite ones are Nuclear Man Prototye quite a funny scene NM1 reminds me of herman munster wanting to have a hug!! And Red Alert is another favorite i been wanting to see and it turned out good as i thought . I do however noticed the music is slightly different then the theatrical cut . I'm not talking about on the NM1 scenes . I mean the rest maybe that was the original music idea ? Including the john willams bit . but who knows .

And if you go a few numbers on the scene selection you'll see a picture of Clark & Lacy at the metro club (deleted scene wasn't included) but maybe WB added that to let us know they've founded all the footage but are waiting to add it to a future S4 Directors Cut . I know its not possible but its a good theory

Well While some may notice something odd in the deleted scenes whenever superman and NM are flying . I wont say it but it didn't bother me

Well If you been wanting to see what the S4 Deleted Footage was like then get this , and the audio commentary is real good to listen to
