Even the special effects on this "personal" movie are lousy!
If Chris Reeve wanted to warn on nuclear threats, why did he make such a Z-series movie?
Very, very bad.

I remember seeing this film in the theater and didn't think it was all that bad, at first, and then somewhere around the 70 minute mark there seems to be a lack of continuity and bang - all the action and special effects in one fell swoop and the end of the movie in 20 minutes. After leaving the theater I had the distinct feeling that the movie had been cut by about 30 minutes. Of course, a 120 minute film is not that unusual so I suspected that the film was even worse so they had no choice but to cut it up. Don't buy this film unless you've just got to have a complete set...heck, even Superman 3 was better than this one!

I don't know why everyone thinks "Superman IV" is a terrible movie. It's not! The flying special effects in this one give it an old movie feel, and I like that. As for Nuclear Man, Cannon Group was very original for putting him in, conidering he wasn't in the comics. This movie should've done great at the box office. My list of my favorite Superman movies:
Superman 1: Great
Superman 4: Also great
Superman 2: Kind of good
Superman 3: Terrible
SEE IT!

Firstly, the Amazon review is just plain insensitive to the memory of Christopher Reeve (R.I.P.) . Check the facts first, people!
It seems everyone has an opinion of SUPES 4 -- and it's all bad! Sure, it's not the best movie ever made, etc, ad nauseum... however, what I'd like to focus on is the fact that for years, Christopher Reeve went on record as stating that there was an original cut of this film that, when viewed - especially in light of the theatrical release - was far superior to what we have been exposed to. So, why aren't we being shown this version? Why isn't it being released? Let's take a guess? Hmmm... MONEY! They'll probably get around to doing a DIR. CUT VERSION in a couple years to suck even more cash out of us! Oh, poor cynical me..

While this film is considered a low-point in the Superman series, it still packs enough action and familiar faces to keep Superman fans entertained. Christopher Reeve once again delivers a knock-out performance as the Man of Steel in this final installment. He even helped write the provocative theme of nuclear disarmament that could have made this the best of the series, had it not been for the drastic budget cuts made by Canon films midway through filming. Despite this, it is still an intriguing premise that is further enhanced by the return of Gene Hackman, Margot Kidder and the rest of the classic cast from the original Superman movie. They have such wonderful chemistry together that it makes it easier to look past any holes in the plot. The movie has been re-mastered for this DVD release and it features a fair amount of supplemental material. Not only is there a commentary by screenwriter Mark Rosenthal but also over 30 minutes of never-before-shown deleted scenes! While it has not been re-integrated back into the film (a grave oversight that I hope WB will one day remedy), it can be accessed from the deleted scenes section of the menu. Fans will finally get to see Superman's confrontation with Luthor's first Bizarro-like creation, more fight sequences with Nuclear Man, Clark's farewell to Lacy Warfield, and so much more! As someone that grew up with the Superman movies, it's always great to see more footage of Christopher Reeve's iconic interpretation of the Man of Steel. He made the character so likable that it's a shame that circumstances beyond his control made his final outing so disjointed. Regardless, the chance to see more of his performance as Superman makes this DVD worth adding to any fan's collection.
