Stabbing Westward broke through the mainstream with the single "What Do I Have To Do?". If this was any indication that UNGOD wasn't enough punch, then the rest of WITHER BLISTER BURN + PEEL cannot live up to the intensity that was UNGOD. WITHER BLISTER BURN + PEEL is a little more melodic affair, but no less intense, but with more industrial soundscapes to back the wailing guitars and the throbbing rhythm section.
WITHER has some sonic punch with "Shame", the second single to hit radio and score. "Shame" has drilling guitars and a frustrated Christopher Hall. "Falls Apart" is semi self-loathing with crunchy guitars and sonic noise. Perhaps one welcome surprise is "Why", with it's pleasant industrial-lite bare-bone throb. It's also one of Hall's quieter vocal moments.
WITHER also retains some of the UNGOD-like intensity with "So Wrong", a track with charging guitars an drums and Hall's scathing of an abusive lover. Other tracks like the melodic spark of "Crushing Me", and the intense "Slipping Away" also throb with aches.
Overall, this might not be the best that Stabbing Westward has created, but WITHER is very worthy.

Let me start by saying i am a music fanatic. listen to all kinds of music, at all times, everyday. I make a point of buying new and different music whenever i hear of something that catches my ear. Stabbing Westward blew me away. And i just have to also say, that i am not a huge NIN fan (but i do love there new live release, i even got the DVD). I think that NIN and Trent Reznor may have been pioneers, but when i listen to Stabbing Westward, i get a feeling that i just dont get with some other bands from this genera. This album in particular blew me away. I have recently made the folow up purchase of "Darkest Days", and that is also great.
It is a shame that bands like Stabbing Westward dont get more attention. The talent is obvious, the sounds is driving and powerful, yet fluid and even beautiful at the same time. Another thing that i have found with this C/D is that i have the hardest time turning it off half way through. The songs all flow so well, and the emotion is so raw that it feels like i am closing the door on a good friend when i turn it off. It touches bass with so many feelings, it is incredible.
In all, i love this C/D. I love how it makes me feel when i hear it. If you are in the mood for something new energetic, and creative, check out Stabbing Westward.
Merry Mellodies folks!

Since hearing "Save Yourself" from the Darkest Days album, and "Dawn" from the Escape From N.Y. Soundtrack, it doesn't take much more to say that Stabbing Westward is a cool band. Their hard hitting tunes, dark melodies, and even darker lyrics make for an intersting sound. I finally got a copy of this album, and was not disappointed. "Shame", "What Do I Have Yo Do"?, "Why", "Inside You", and "Crushing Me" are my favorites, but the rest are just as good. If you don't have a copy yet, I'd add this to your Stabbing Westward collection, or start one today.

Stabbing Westward's second release, "Wither, Blister, Burn and Peel" is one of the finest CD's I have in my catolouge. To anyone that likes metal, industrial, basicly anything except easy listening, will be pleased with this CD

My girlfriend bought this for me when it came out, because I was hooked on "What Do I Have To Do". To my surprize the great songs didn't stop with the only song to get any airplay off of the CD. The band melds alternative music, with a hard rock sound, and incorporates keyboards[synthesizers], too! Most of their sound is dark and some would say depressing, but I enjoy this more than I can express with mere words.
There are no filler songs here and the release deserves better than a 5 rating. Good songs include "Why", "Inside You", "Slipping Away", and "So Wrong". The songs I enjoyed the most were "I Don't Believe", "Falls Apart", "So Wrong", and "Crushing Me". It's hard to believe anyone's luck could suck as much as mine, but these guys at least make it sound great!
You should make these misunderstood rock stars from Chicago a part of your CD collection, their music and angst is tremendous. All of the songs have a great beat and the music seems to be well thought out...
