I love this band more than any other group of musicians currently out in the industry. Why? Because the integrity of their musical vision carries through even without the large MTV fueled fan-base of other bands. I bought this album the day it came out because I heard "What Do I Have To Do?" on the radio the night before. To my surprise, this wasn't even the best track on the album.
There's a brutality and melancholy to this album that I have not seen since its release all this time ago. Even the afore mentioned track carries a hidden sort of rage to it that is only fully expressed in the video (in the version I saw, he runs a woman over with his truck).
"I Don't Believe" is the foundation of expression of singer Chris Hall's rage with a great deal of intensity. The lyrics rough and forward, and I love this song. It's a great opener to a great album.
My definite choice for a favorite on this album is "Why?," not only because it helped me through a rough spot in my life, but because it defies all the conceptions I had about the band from the first three tracks on the CD.
Every single song on this album is amazing. There are only ten tracks on this album (as is the case with 3 of the 4 SW releases currently out), but there is always something to be said about quality over quantity. It makes for many, many listen throughs. I have gone through this album literally 200 times, and it does not lose it's freshness.
Long after Trent Reznor loses his importance as a musician (I think his time is already here actually), there will be this album. Don't get me wrong, I like NIN, but Stabbing Westward has the kind of raw emotion to their music that makes you truly love a band. That's why I love this album.

This to me is one of the best cds. I have listened to this cd so many times that it got so scratched that I had to get a new one! Stabbing Westward puts their heart and soul in this cd. This is a must own.

Stabbing Westward are what I consider an "average" band. But mediocre isn't really the description because Hall's depression on most of his songs he brings. Though this isn't my favorite it's not bad. Actually if I wasn't so annoying of a grader this would be a four because it's always in one of those "Sound savers" logos. Thank God the new release is out because it just got to a perfectly reasonable price. Many of these songs are pretty cool, including the two singles, "Shame" and "What Do I Have To Do?". Aside, "Sleep" is some scary sh**. If you listen you will know. Even Chris's vocals sound in shock when he sings it. I still think Gravity Kills have more talent. Either it's just that or I like them better. I think it's that last one. Because I haven't heard as much energy as on GK's "Alive".

Big rock songs, including their first mainstream hit What do I have to do. Along with their first and only hit to make it to MTV which is Shame (a big rock song). Other great hard songs include, So Wrong, I don't believe, and Crushing Me. Another great song to listen to is Chris Hall's emotional thoughts with Inside You. It has really great songs most of which may be found on several other soundtracks.
