An excellent "alternative" to NIN. From the very beginning with "I Don't Believe", this CD is heavy, yet simultaneously melodic. As one who hates the labeling process in music (disregard the title!), Stabbing Westward are in a class all their own. The guitars are great, drums convincingly evident, and the programming not over-the-top ala NIN. I bought this 4 years ago, and after "The Fragile" came out, went back and started listening to it again, coming to the conclusion that this CD was by far a better purchase. NOT a waste of money at all.

I bought stabbing westward because i heard shame on the radio and i thought they would be an ok metal band. WRONG! The only moderatly heavy song is shame, like only 2 more have actual heavy guitar in them, it takes all day to get to it, and then its done. Im just glad I got it at a discount. Stay away!

This album is one of the best albums that I have ever heard that not a lot of people have heard about. The loud, angry, and intense vocals and instrumentals just blow you away. This album is not shallow, as a lot of metal or hard rock is. It is very complex, and the lyrics are about issues that many people can relate to on a more depthful plain. Songs such as shame and what do I have to do? both deal with a feeling of inadequacy with the opposite sex. These are two of the best songs on the entire album. The whole album is great, and I have listened to it for hours on end many times. I would recommend this album for mostly teenagers who don't have shallow taste in music. If you are not a teenager, but like music such as hard stone temple pilots, or AC/DC then I believe that you will get a lot of enjoyment out of this album.
