This music does a great job of what its supposed to do which is evoke in you certain emotions that correspond to certain parts of the film going on that they were written for, and Williams does a phenomenal job at that as usual. The Main Title is simply awesome, there is only one other sequence that has more memories associated with it for me and that's the main title to Star Wars another Williams hit. I must admit the whole "Can You Read My Mind?" thing is quite a bit cheesy but this album is still worth it for all of the rest of the songs. I always have fun trying to detect the different themes of each character and where they are woven into other songs, it takes a while but you can definitely do it.

John Williams is without doubt the finest film scorer ever. His work on "Superman" easily rivals that of the "Star Wars" trilogy; in fact, it may well be better. Tears invariably find their way into my eyes when I listen to this magnificent orchestral voice tell a story so eloquently and beautifully. Just listen to "The Planet Krypton" as it paints a picture of a far advanced civilization, and the captivating spiraling-upward of "The Fortress of Solitude" as Kal-el learns about his glorious heritage. "Love Theme From Superman" could've been just "Love Theme," in any context at all; it is that definitive. Williams' knack for a consistent sense of forward motion and turn of musical phrase is an absolute joy to behold; it really is akin to something like Mozart. The Margot Kidder spoken part on the "Flying Sequence" with its accompanying loungey rhythm section is definitely a bit heavy on the cheese, but it's worth it for the sake of the generous slabs of pure brilliance on either side of it. Most people have undoubtedly seen this movie at some point, but I couldn't recommend more highly that one should rediscover the soundtrack. Anyone who loves music should have it.

John Williams was on a roll that started with Jaws and that roll has yet to end! The word genius gets bandied around a lot these days but it is an apellation that applies to Williams in spades. 'Star Wars', 'Close Encounters' and 'Superman' are his best works, in my opinion, and Supes is probably the best of those. You would have to be tone deaf and made of stone to not feel the hairs on the back of your neck rise when the horns of the 'Main Title' sound! This music is sheer (that word again) genius from start to finish and is very moving in every way. 'The Love Theme To Superman', 'Fortress Of Solitude' and 'Leaving Home' still give me goosebumps after all these years. Am I gushing over this album? You bet! If I could I'd give it TEN stars, so help me! I think I'll go play 'Leaving Home' again right now, so I can blubber like a baby once more...

Just to let you know that the track listing above (as of 20th Janurary) are wrong and are in fact from the forthcoming Superman Box Set. THIS CD has 14 tracks on one CD

It was just fantastic to listen to all those songs I first knew when I was just a kid. Williams is certainly a genius! There could be no other more suitable soundtrack for Superman. The "Love Theme" is one of my favourites. Buy this soundtrack and let your thoughts fly while listening to it...
