Music : By Request: The Best Of John Williams And The Boston Pops Orchestra

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Best
I first bought this CD back in 1994 and I have listened to it so many times that now virtually every track skips. I think I'll finally break down and buy it again...and I'll keep listening!

John Williams is of course the greatest film composer ever, especially because he has written so many catchy themes that resonate so well to audiences...anyone who listens to this CD will instantly recognize most of these famous movie themes, even if they don't know who John Williams is.

This has been one of my favorite CD's and comes with me every time I go on a long road trip, despite having to put up with skips and pops from my used and abused copy!

I could go on and on, but others have covered it well...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Don't hestitate, buy this awesome CD!
I was blown away by the awesomeness of this CD. After the first listen, I was hooked. Now I play it at least every week. The whole CD is well put together with a mix of slow songs and then the big powerful songs. I blast it in my car all the time, it's great for long drives. You can't go wrong with the original composer directing the wonderful Boston Pops orchestra. So if you have any thoughts about buying this CD, do so. You will never regret it, and you won't find a better mix of John Williams songs on one CD any where else.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Best Of The Best
John Williams is a god. Plain and simple. There is no other way to put it. The most famous pieces of music from a movie in the last 27 years or so has come from him. The music that totally [stinks] you in and brings you totally in the moment. If you need the kind of music that guarantees that kind of reaction, John Williams is your man. The music that he has done that has brought him to this status is all here. Who can forget the menacing terror of the "Jaws" theme?. It is, quite simply, the most famous piece of music to induce terror since the shower scene music from "Psycho". If not more. Everything else here is all just as good. The heroic theme to "Superman" is easily the best theme song for a superhero ever created. The theme for "Indiana Jones" is a close runner for that too. You can't listen to these two powerful scores and not get goosebumps. This is what film scoring is all about. Who could forget his theme to "Star Wars"?. Brilliant. The music the spaceship played in "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind"?. Unforgettable. The beautiful score for "E.T." is also here. His work just doesn't stop at movies. He did the music for the Olympics and for the NBC Nightly News. He has done some incredible work since the release of this CD. The adventurous score for "Jurassic Park" and it's sequels, the haunting score for "Schindler's List", and the whimsical fairy tale score for "Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone". "Schindler" may be one of the all time greatest pieces of film scoring I've ever heard. It's not here, but we can hope that this CD gets updated!!. I hope John Williams continues to go strong well into the future. Movies won't be the same without him. Get this.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Will make a fan out of you!
And if you're not yet a devoted BPO/John Williams fan, this is the album that will convert you. One of my favorite CD's in my stack for a very simple reason- it's good for all moods! When I need some relaxation, Luke and Leia Theme (Return Of The Jedi) or Yoda's Theme (The Empire Strikes Back) are in order. When pushing the lawnmower in the Texas 110 degree summers, the only tracks that get me motivated would be Raiders Of The Lost Ark, or the Star Wars set. If I finish the lawn before the CD is over, you'll see me mow a second time! In a celebratory state? Olympic Fanfare and E. T. Flying Theme will keep you there. Bottom line? It doesn't matter if you are a classical/film music fan or not, this is the CD for you! And for the classical fans, don't be turned off by the genre. It's classic Williams- at his finest.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - John Williams By Request
There is no question that John Williams is the one of the greatest composers of all time. This disc is fabulous! Every track is a tribute to William's greatness. The themes for 1941 and Midway are the best I have ever heard. I would recommend this disc to anybody interested in film or TV music. Williams sets the standard in the industy.
