I have no idea how much of the "legend" of Kim Fowley is pure invention by the man himself....how much his noteriety is the product of self-promotion and hucksterism, but isn't that the point?
Regradless, this is one of the strangest CD's I've come across. Mixture of early '60s Hollywood rock (the kind you hear as soundtrack fodder behind any 'teen' oriented movie from that era during dance scenes or makeout scenes in cars atop "Lovers Leap." And then there's just plain bad, like, "Rise of the Brighton Surf," a knock-off House of the Rising Sun with horribly inept rhythm (he claims the backing musicians include Jimmy Page and JP Jones!...if so they were throwing the session because they could) and chatty singing complete with unfunny asides. The whole thing is as cheesy as it gets; it's downright amateur. Bad lounge was never this bad. I suppose that means it's cool and fun and funny.
Some of the tracks were dumped from old 45s by the sound of them. This detail is not offered as a negative, only to fill in more detail. If you like weird outsider music, this could be your ticket to Hollywood underground circa 196?
