Music : Blue

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The test of time
this cd is the best third eye blind cd for many reasons, the largest one being the more you listen to it the more deep the songs become. The experimentation of this album is brilliant and the sounds that emerge are insane. This "sound" is not on the new album which is a bit of a dissapointment. If you want a third eye blind cd,this is it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Something New
When I got "Blue," the band had released "Anything" and "Never Let You Go" as their singles. Quite frankly, I was not too impressed with either one when I listened to them for the first time. "Anything" just lacked lyrical content and "Never Let You Go" was a little too pop-y for me. However, being a 3EB fan and also liking some of the other tracks I had heard, I got the album. When I first started listening to it, I got to like "Anything" and "Never Let You Go" along with the rest of the songs comprising the first half of the album. However, the latter part of "Blue" is comprised with tracks that are rather "experimental." I think the band was just trying to play around with their sound. At first, I didn't like those tracks too much, but it has grew on me over the years. I think "Blue" is a great album in that it has longevity. I have had it pretty much as early as when it was first released, and I still enjoy listening to it to this day. Also, today, I can listen to the whole album withough once hitting the skip button. The album is solid, comprised with many good songs, however, it may take some time for some of the songs to grow on a listener. However, "Blue" does not live up to it's predecessor. I have all of 3EB's studio albums, and I still think their first one is their best to date. Both "Blue" and "Out of the Vein" are great albums that are well worth the money, they don't have the "finesse" that the first album had. I recommend that if you don't have the first 3EB ablum, go get that one first. However, if you do, either "Blue" or their new "Out of the Vein" is a great pickup. While the latter CD offers more consistency, "Blue" offers some more exceptional tracks like "Wounded" and "An Ode To Maybe" that will blow you away the first time you listen to them.

1. "Anything" 8/10: I have to admit that the track is pretty stale in terms of lyrical content. But it is just a great song to listen to. Has a lot of energy and quick-paced. Only drawback is that it only lasts 2 minutes flat.
2. "Wounded" 10/10: Great song, probably my favorite off the album. A lot of dynamics and lyrical content.
3. "10 Days Late" 8/10: Pretty good song ot listen to
4. "Never Let You Go" 9/10: A little pop-y, but nobody can argue it's VERY catchy
5. "Deep Inside Of You" 10/10: Great song. More mellow. Has a great bridge.
6. "1000 Julys" 7/10: A lot of people love this track. It's a good song and fun to listen to, but I can't say that it is great when compared to some of the other tracks.
7. "An Ode To Maybe" 10/10: This is the second best track on the album. A very catchy tune and it hooks you the very first time you listen to it.
8. "The Red Summer Sun" 6/10: This is what I consider experimental track #1. Original I didn't like the song because of the huge dynamic between the first part of the song to the second. But over the years, I've gotten to enjoy to song because of the dynamic. It's a very unique and entertaining track.
9. "Camouflage" 6/10: Again, unique and entertaining. For all intent of purpose, it's really more of an instrumental than anything. There are lyrics, but everything is reverbed so you can't understand any of them. You can't really rate this one too high even though the verse and chorus sound pretty good, because you can't understand what Jenkins is saying.
10. "Farther" 7/10: I like this track a lot. It has a good beat and sounds different from the others.
11. "Slow Motion" 8(10)/10: Here's an interesting track. I gave this track two ratings, 8 and 10. The 8 is for the track that you'd hear on the album, the 10 is for the track that 3EB actually recorded, but had to edit. This track on the album is an instrumental except during the chorus where Jenkins will sing the chorus. However, although it is a GREAT instrumental, it leaves the listener empty since you want to know what Jenkins is saying for the rest of the song. I suggest to everyone to go and download the lyrical version of this song online because it truly is a great song. The lyrics are rather blatant and explicit (thus them being edited out), but it just sounds so much better with the lyrics. "Slow Motion" with the lyrics would get a 10/10 and would probably be my favorite off this album. But since, the lyrics are gone, it gets an 8.
12. "Darkness" 8/10: Another good song. Verses are a little weird at first. But it has a great chorus and I like listening to this one a lot.
13. "Darwin" 9/10: Unique but a very good song. Has a great verse and a great chorus with a cool ending. Excellent track to close the album off (well, sorta, there's a hidden "track" which is somewhat of a continuation of "The Red Summer Sun")

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - THE BEST OUT OF ALL THREE ALBUMS!
Just to say, this is my favorite cd. i bought it at a cd store closing for 3 bucks, and it was the best 3 bucks i have ever spent. Although both Third Eye Blind's debut album (self-titled, 1997) and third album (Out of the vein, 2003) blew me away, I don't think they can ever match the greatness of this cd. Still, i think it would have been better if Elektra had left the lyrics in the song "Slow Motion" (they were edited out because they were considered too explicit; it was a song about smoking pot and killing someone). If you want to get lost in a great cd that defines what all music should be, buy 3EB's Blue. u wont be sorry. *Laura*

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Beautiful Second Album from San Frans Alt Rockers
Third Eye Blinds second album is different but equally as great as their self titled. Stephan Jenkins writes some of the most powerful lyrics of any modern artist. Blue uses more expirimentation than their self titled album, but never over does it to the point of being over-produced. It contains some of their best work including Anything, Wounded, 1000 July's, Farther and Darkness. Many critics of the band seem to expect them to be a pop group, but if you have listened to their music you already know they are misrepresented by their singles. Most of their music is straight up rock. Sadly Blue represents the last work between Jenkins and guitarist Kevin Cadogan who was fired shortly after Blue was released. He was replaced by Tony Fredianelli who is an excellent guitarist, but brings a noticably different sound to the band.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not quite as good as before
Okay I bought this CD way late I seem to be ill-informed when these CD's come out.
Anyway while this CD isn't bad I don't think it's nearly as good as 3DB. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the CD i'm saying I'm dissapointed. I didn't find any great tracks that I wanted to listen to over and over, they were in pletiful supply on there previous CD.
I suppose if your a diehard fan you'll like the CD however, I find myself reaching for 3DB over this...
