Agreeing with every positive reveiw of this CD, I write this reveiw to warn you: The alleged "Explicit Lyrics" are in the wonderful song, "Slow Motion" about a man who commits murder, and then must live with his guilt in the face of the law and the media, and how he sees things differently, knowing his time as a free man are limited. the lyrics, though technically explicit (references to drug use, sex, and violence), are appropriate to the mellow, dark mood of the song.
the "Clean" version of this album simply removes the verses from the song "Slow Motion"... they tear the soul out of a fantastic, mellow song. do not buy the clean version. They ruin one of 3eB's best songs.

This CD picks up from Third Eye Blind's self-titled debut and launches the band into an artistic stratosphere of their own. Much darker and deeper than similar albums of its era, Third Eye Blind's sophomore release captures the essence, energy and emotion of what keeps contemporary life in orbit. The combination of classic rock, cutting-edge/genre-hopping rhythms and Jenkins' cerebral self-effacement, makes this album the very definition of post-modern music. Like other legendary recordings (and contrary to the comments of many "critics"), Blue manages to be seriously accomplished without taking itself too seriously: The elaborate and exquisite musical production layer above lyrics of unparalleled humanity, honesty and humor. Pulsating upon the very edge of the millennium, just like our planet, this collection of music will stand the test of time!

jenkins sure knows how to write some extremely sexually charged lyrics and then hide them somewhere in between all the guitar riffs, music breaks and catchy refrains (much like the do do do from semi-charmed kinda life..).
he's just brilliant - the whole band is... i dont think there's a bad moment on this cd at all.
no there isn't a 'motor-cycle drive-by' on this album.. but songs like that one only come once in a while...
though it IS quite different from their self-titled disc, definitely worth a listen regardless if you think they've 'sold-out' or not!

_blue_ is simply a masterpiece of pop-rock music! it has tons of massive hooks, sweet grooves, incredible melodies, awesome vocals courtesy of mr. jenkins, and dashes of experimentalism! the melodies soar overhead with his sweet falsetto voice, the drums rip and roar through some funky bass grooves, and the guitars strum delicately or spit out a distorted lullaby of happiness. as much as i enjoy third eye blind's eponymous debut album (which is one of my favorite pop albums ever), i think _blue_ is even better. it is impossible to deny the songsmanship on display here. everyone should listen to this album.
