Been waiting for this for a couple of years now.. Ever since I saw the movie when I was a kid, I've loved this soundtrack - easily one of Williams' best from this "period" of film. When I heard that Rhino had gotten the rights to do an expanded soundtrack, I waited with baited breath as they kept pushing the date back.
Now that it's here, all I can do is recommend to any Williams fan - buy this CD ASAP! Rhino did a fabulous job on the packaging and the actual CD itself sounds gorgeous. "Jonathan's Death" sends chills down my spine each time I hear the very end...
Anyhow, I highly recommend this.

This score is the ultimate in movie scores and it fit's perfectly with the best superhero movie ever made, I mean, the minute you hear the theme to this movie you know it's Superman, because it embodies the character emotionally in every way, now how cool is that! Also if they ever do another Superman film not having a theme modeled after this one will be a major mistake. The music has heart and depth which will move you when you listen to this soundtrack. It has taken many years for the complete soundtrack to be released and it was well worth the wait. John Williams is the best and this music proves it. And do I dare say that this theme is better than Star Wars, I DO!

It's incredible to be able to listen to the Superman soundtrack in it's entirety. This has always been my favorite work of music by Williams. A favorite track of mine, previously unreleased, is the track 'The Death of Jonathon Kent', in which a young superman realizes that, for all his fantastic powers, he is unable to restore his father to life. A very powerful, emotional cue and a very important scene in the development of Superman's character. I'm very glad that these many additional songs are at last available on cd. From start to finish, I truly love this score.

when i heard about this album,i was very excited.finally the whole complete score to john williams masterpiece superman.i'm a huge john williams fan and i gotta say i'm lucky enough to have not been waiting for this for very long.i just found out about it about three weeks ago.but it was a long three weeks and when feb.15th arrived the first thing i did for that day was go straight to the store.but i couldn't find it anywhere.so i went ahead and ordered it and so it looks like i'm going to be waiting some more.i have the original warner bros. album and i was very disappointed with it.there was so many things left out and some things that did make it weren't the same as they were in the movie.so i'm very pleased that pieces like star ship escapes and jonathon's death are there.and of course i'm really looking forward to hearing the big scene where superman makes his first apperance and saves lois.this cd i believe is definitely going to be worth the money and i probably would have paid more if i had to.

I wasn't expecting a miricle from this release, and I didn't get one. The sound quality on the previous CD release was horrible...muddled, muted, warbly, shaky. Rhino's supposed "digital remastering" has done very little to create a noticible change in this release. The bass is still muted and muddled, but perhaps a BIT less so. The same can be said for the high brass: a bit less warbly, but still not up to par. I know this recording is old, and, judging by the inexcusable quality of the previous recording, I doubt there was much Rhino could have done. If you noticed sharp glitches in certain tracks on the earlier release, you will notice them again.
However, Rhino COULD have provided more user-friendly packaging. First of all, the outer cardboard "box" is far too narrow to fit both the CD case and booklet inside. The copy I received was already stressed and bent while in the wrapper. Once I got the contents of the box out, I found it almost impossible to fit them back in without ripping the box and crinkling the booklet. In addition, the CD housing is as fragile as it can be. One has to bend it to remove the CDs, and, in the process, risks bending the CDs and breaking the housing.
On a positive note, the music is, of course, a classic, and perhaps Williams' best score. The booklet included with the release is quite thick with details and (this time) color (!) photos. Although black and white photos still abound!
In sum, an improvement, but far from a Super one. I'm tempted to buy the John Debney release (which I have been holding back from, waiting to see if this release would satisfy me).
