- At last -- the complete Superman
Finally, the entire score for Superman: The Movie! No doubt one of Williams finest scores which ranks up there with Star Wars and Indiana Jones. I am so very pleased to have all the music to this movie, there are some wonderful parts that the other CDs left out. My only complaints are that they didn't get Williams to re-conduct the score since it sounds old and muffled at times. The other atempt to make a 'complete' Superman Score recording is newer and sounds better but is missing quite a bit. This Sound problem though is a small price to pay for the entire Superman Score. Simply Super!

"Superman:The Movie" is definitely the best score John Williams has ever written. Now with the release of this expanded edition, I can appreciate the soundtrack that tops all the other titles in my collection in its fullest form. This is a CD that should be in every collection. It's popular, classical. It's a feast to every listener

This CD is a wonderful addition to anyone who enjoys the music of John Williams. The extra tracks on the disc alone make it worth owning. There are several cues, mainly ones used either during the Krypton sequences, the Lois and Clark romantic scenes, and the from the last 20 minutes of the film that were not on the original ST album. Sound quality is crisp and clear, but acoustically dry. Wish they added just a touch of reverberation to make it more listenable. The dryness makes the horns in a couple of the alternate versions sound sharp. But the London Symphony Orchestra is performing, and they sound great. The album notes give any fan of the film plenty of fun reading. Only real complaint is the packaging jams the booklet and CD jewel case case into a metallic paper cover which doesn't quite fit. Mine is going to come apart any day now.

Still highly recommend.

- The Definitive Superman
After buying the SUPERMAN THE MOVIE score on vinyl, then twice on cd(one was a rerecording), It's about time they got it right with this excellent release from Rhino. This cd is the definitive presentation of one of John Williams greatest scores. It not only includes every bit of music from the film, but also unused and alternate music written for scenes like the opening Planet Krypton scene and the flying sequence which has no less than four versions(vocals and non vocals) on the cd including a dated pop-synth version which was wisely not used in the movie. This work is Williams and the LSO at their best. It's great that record companies like Rhino step up and present great movie scores like BEN-HUR, POLTERGEIST, and SUPERMAN in their entirety and release first rate albums. This is the only Superman cd you'll ever need.
