Jennifer Knapp is definitely one of the most talented female acoustic artists today. Her songs sound so nice, her vocals are so pleasing, and the arrangement compliments the voice rather than taking away from it. I just can't get enough of Jennifer... too bad this CD is so short! That is my only complaint - not enough of Jennifer's beautiful voice and great writing!! I would DEFINITELY recommend you add this album to your collection, it is a great purchase. You will remember these songs for years to come. This is one of those albums that you'll play a long time from now, and it will still sound great. Personal faves - Usher Me Down, All Consuming Fire, and Peace. One of my favorite CD's, a must-buy for Christian and acoustic music enthusiasts!!

I just have to say that this album is AWESOME!! She is so unique, but so incredible! I also enjoyed her Kansas album, but this is definitely a better album. Her lyrics, voice, and honest voice draw you in and they get you to think. I highly recommend this album for anyone :-)

As I write this review, Jennifer Knapp is up for Grammy consideration for "Lay it Down" -- but not in a "mainstream" music category. I'll admit that as both a Christian and a lover of popular music, I wince at times at the earnest but painfully bland content of the majority of CCM. So my joy at discovering Jennifer Knapp knows few bounds! "Lay it Down", is, in my opinion, the single finest CCM record I've heard in the last few years, and I have heard quite a few. Musically and lyrically, I was taken aback from the first listen by Jennifer's maturity, insight, and passion for God. Though I am very fond of her first record, "Kansas", it is immediately clear that she has "grown up" in the two years since that album and this. Every song on here is a gem, from the opening track on. Jennifer's ability to seamlessly integrate scripture with her own words is marvelous, especially on my favorite tracks, "A Little More" and "Answer Me".
One key difference that sets Jennifer Knapp apart is her background -- as an adult convert, she has a wealth (and that is truly what it is) of painful experiences from the time before she began her journey with Christ. On "Lay it Down", she accesses those experiences perfectly to capture with delicate exactness the relief, the joy, and the sheer wonder at beginning a new kind of love affair with Jesus. No offense to anyone else, but as a convert myself, that is something that I think most "cradle Christians", no matter how compassionate, can fully understand.

Jennifer Knapp's Second album has so much to offer. It is truly an amazing sophomore album. Her folk/rock style delivers a powerful Christian message in every song. But ,the part that I really apreciated was how much better this album was produced. Not just the looks of the CD and case, but the sound quality is far superiour to the previous album. It is produced as well as any of the secular artists out there, and that excites me. I highly recomend this album. If you liked her last one, you'll love this one. If you like Caedmon's Call, Natalie Merchant, or Smalltown Poets, you will also love this CD.

Lay it down was a good cd but I found myself getting sick of listening to it after a couple of songs. Jennifer Knapp has good lyrics and music but it got boring after a while.
