If you want to pull up to the stop light & show people you are 'righteous' & 'religious' buy a bumper-sticker. If you want your heart broken for Christ buy this CD. My first exposure to Jen. was dramatically peircing- emotionally & spiritually. This new JK CD is just as passionate & realistic. Her God-given talent for vivid musical expression continues to thrive!

I bought this record after hearing "A Little More" on the WOW 2000 CD. I wasn't familiar with any song she had recorded save for "Refine Me" on Kansas (I heard it once at church). When I popped the disc in my player, I was pleased to hear not only the song that convinced me to buy the album, but a version different from the one captured on WOW 2000. I let the entire record play all the way through and loved every song on it. I listened to it straight through almost every day for two weeks.
Her voice, songwriting, and message hooked me so much I went out and bought her debut album and loved it just the same. If I had to pick the highlights they would be "A Little More", "Lay It Down," "You Answer Me," "Diamond In The Rough," and "When Nothing Satisfies." No track dissappoints here. If you are looking for a great album that you can just let play, you can stop right here. She's your diamond in the rough.

Jennifer Knapp is a rare talent as a musician. She is also a rare talent as a Christian. I do not own any other Christian CDs besides Lay It Down (and soon Kansas). Knapp melds a beautiful heartfelt poetry into all her lyrics. She gets down on herself and unlike grundgers like Scott Weiland, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, and so many others that turn to drugs, Knapp prays to God. I am not a Sunday worshipping Christian. What makes Knapp special is her music may preach to me, but I don't really feel it preaching. The songs she plays are melodically and spiritually beautiful, rare of any performer. While Stone Temple Pilots cleanses their soul with every CD, they also can send out the wrong message with songs like Sex & Violence. Knapp doesn't do that. Her soul-cleansing leaves the listener feeling pure and relaxed. Great buy.

Jennifer Knapp can definitely hold her own against the best secular artists of today. Knapp delivers again with LAY IT DOWN, her sophomore effort, and an excellent follow-up to her debut album KANSAS. With soul-searching lyrics and solid music, this album is a pleaser. Each song is pleasant and even challenging, and Knapp explores a harder-edged sound while maintaining a feeling of intimate worship. Knapp's lyrics maintain honesty and her style is consistent with her previous album while venturing into newer territory. Even with a bonus CD included (it features re-mixes), this album plays a bit short, however.
Fans of Natalie Merchant, Meredith Brooks, or even Tracy Chapman will appreciate this album, and fans of Knapp's first album will love it.

In Jenn's first cd she really hits on key points of walking the narrow road; our struggles with temptaion, agony of failure, and neverending forgiveness that we never deserve. She beautifully blends all her insightful lyrics with an original folk/pop sound that drawls and soars, that's lulling and sweat. But Jenn also knows how to rock with the best of them, performing back up for Audio Adrenaline's "Peace like a River". Her second release Lay It Down, is nothing short of a masterpiece; relinquishing all her previous high points and adding fresh insightful meaning to new lyrics like "A Little More" and "I Wanna Know You". Jenn's multiple talents of songwriting, singing, and guitar are grandly displayed and the glory is duely directed to the One who instilled them. What more can be said? The album ROCKS!
