this cd is SO boring. all the songs sounds the same. the best song on the cd is probably "Micheal Jordan" just because it doesn't sound like all the other songs. like as soon as i get a cd i listen to the whole thing. when i got this cd i could barely handle the first 3 songs. if you like boring-put-you-to-sleep music then this is the cd for you. and if you don't then i definately don't recomend this one.

Long before "Superman (It's Not Easy)" had saturated the airwaves in the waning months of 2001, this album had sneakily become one of the freshest and most engaging pop albums of the year. I bought this after hearing the last strains of the video fade while popping through VH1 last summer, and still return to this album almost weekly for a tuneful reminder that new pop artists are still making great music. From the opening cut to the last, this is a terrific find, easy to listen to and hard to forget. My personal favorite: "Love Song" which features one of the best lyric/music marriages on any pop album this year. Strange, sad, hopeful and wonderful, it is a great example of the songwriting skill that John Ondrasik displays on this wonderful album. "Here in the borders of America Town" he sings on an earlier cut . . . I hope he is here in the borders of America Town for a long time to come.

THE RETURN OF SINGER-SONGWRITERS? Well, kinda.David Gray may be exceptional as a singer/songwriter, so are Ryan Adams,Pete Yorn, and Rufus Wainwright. But how about John Ondrasik a.k.a Five For Fighting(it's like a Nine Inch Nails suitation, folks)? Well,kinda... "America Town",Ondrasik's major-label debut, went to #54 on the pop charts and went gold due to the lush lullaby "Superman (It's Not Easy)"-a top 15 hit as of this writing. But after listening to "America Town",I wonder if "Superman" is the only quality song he can come up with. This album is extremely underdelovoped. It's needs more stucure. With the exception of "Jainy",there's no other song on this album that really soars. So it's sad to say but it looks like after "Superman" runs its course,Ondsarik will be a well,one-hit-wonder.But that may change if he comes up with a better album, next time round. For the meantime,I recommend:David Gray's "White Ladder",Ryan Adams' "Gold",and Pete Yorn's "Songsforthemorningafter".

It's so rare to discover muscians and songwriters these days who have any depth to them. This has always been the case, but there's a lot more garbage out there than there used to be. Well, Five For Fighting and his first album, AMERICA TOWN is a jewel worth looking for. I say "his" because "the band" is actually just one guy who wrote all his own words and music."Superman" is the song that is making it's rise on the charts and rightly so. It's a great tune and full of depth both in music and lyrics that is so difficult to find nowadays. This is the song that has hooked many and could lead to John Ondrasik becoming a star. However, even if the man never has another really big hit, this album is worth owning. Though, the rest of the songs aren't quite as catchy as "Superman" most of them are just as deeply written (both musically and lyrically). One final note, no Five For Fighting is not The Dave Matthews Band. As much as I enjoy, TDMB, they can only hope to write music with so much depth.

I absolutely love this CD!!!
Every time someone walks into my room they ask "Is this Dave Matthews?"
An emphatic "no" on that question.
While I like the DMB, this album has much more depth, lyrically.
This albums exudes feeling, and provokes thought.
If you like to think about your music, this album is nothing but poetry, making it perfect for contemplating.
The entire album is good. My favorite song is Jainy. "The last great american" is alittle too patriotic for me, but nonetheless is a good song.
