- is there someting missing from the dvd version
On chapter 22 of the disc, right after Lois deliverd the cape back to Clark and Clark took out the crystal from Krypton, there "should" be a scene about Superman walked into a burning furnace to cure himself from the wound inflicted by Nuclear Man.
I say "should" because of two reasons: first of all, it doesn't make sense to have Superman suffered from the wound this scene and suddenly turned ok the next and fighting Nuclear Man again without something happening to him. Secondly, I remember this "deleted" scene the first time I watched it in 1987. What happen to this scene, could someone tell me? Thanks.

After hearing the news of Christopher Reeve passing I popped my copy of Superman IV in to the machine and hit play. I love this movie flaws and all. The idea of Superman dealing with the Cold War is a great one and the cast is excellent. The problem is in the editing and cheap FX. I agree with the reviewers who would like to see the missing 35 minutes inserted into the film again. The owners of this film should put the footage back and somebody should fix up the FX and put out a special edition box set of the Superman movies. I'd even sit through Superman 3 again if it was in such a box set with quality extras. Superman IV needs to recieve the quality treatment it never got. It's one of Reeve's best turns as the Man of Steel (although he was always great in the role). Put IV together right this time and improve the FX a little and release it on DVD somebody!

There are critics on here picking on the name "Nuclear Man" being used in a movie about a guy called "Superman"! LOL!
Attention all Scrooges: If ya can't take characters with names like "Nuclear Man" you should stay away from the comic book genre entirely so you won't run into other cleverly named characters like Batman or Spiderman.
On the other hand if ya love this sort of thing there's plenty of fun and cheesy stuff in this one and plenty of heart. Christopher Reeves is excellent. The character of Superman's incredible warmth and humanity abound in this one. Yes the whole thing seems like a fairly cheap comic book movie but so what? That's what it is! Sure it's a flawed cheesy comic book flick but so what? Reeve and Superman are indeed super in this one and I can't help having warm feeling for this movie.

The main villain is called Nuclear Man.

Nuclear Man.

Isn't that clever? Boy that's clever. Damn, is that ever clever. Jeezus, it boggles the mind doesn't it?

But corny nomers aside, this movie was a headache from start to finish. Aside from the agonizing, never-ending, ever-repeating romance between him and Lois Lane, the plot involves Lex Luthor escapes because our great criminal system chooses to have TWO GUARDS watch over him. I can't wait until they get Osama bin Laden and they guard him with one tired old guy. Lex Luthor utilizes Nuclear Man (guess what he's made of, no seriously) against Superman. Lots of stupid fighting and super-bad special affects ensue. (watch the rebuilding of the Great Wall, which looks and sounds like a Legos commercial)

You're mind will explode with such scenes as Superman locking Nuclear Man in an elevator, and the sunlight peeking through doesn't affect him until he's on the moon. To prevent such mind combustions, just don't watch the movie.

I saw this awhile back when it first hit theaters, during the summer of 1987. As this celluloid fart eminated through the theater, the audience, as well as myself, sat there slackjawed thinking, This can't be a Superman movie!?! this sucks! But, much like an Oreck vacuum cleaner, "Superman IV" does just that and more.

After recieving a letter from a youngster, inspiring Superman to rid the world of nuclear weapons, The Man of Steel decides to claim the Earth as his permanent home and stop being the visitor from another planet. But, Superman has a full days work ahead of him as he fullfills the youngster's wish, & battles Lex Luthor, with his latest creation a gentically made Superman called Nuclear Man who is powered by the sun.

The film is an abmomination. The story wants to be in the vein of the first two Superman installments, but falls way below the line. The visual effects are the absolute worst in modern day filmaking (my 2 year old niece can make better effects on the family PC!). The cast has outgrown there roles. If they brought something fresh to the table, the film may have been more stomachable, instead its the same old shtick. Alexander Courage, who blessed pop-culture with the original "Star Trek" theme, is in paint-by-numbers mode rehashing John Williams outstanding score from the first film (for the record, the score has been rehashed for all 3 sequels). One of the worst comic book films ever. Then again, there is always "Catwoman", "Captain America", & "The Hulk". Ugh.
