This album is astounding. I first heard it about two years ago, and it still amazes me. Within those two years, I have found many reasons to absolutely love this CD.
Some of my favourites:
Courage-Very, very cool guitars. I get an outerworldly experience when I hear it. 9/10
Movies-Lyrically, one of the best on the album. Musically, it floors me how much emotion is put into this song from the singing to the instruments. 10/10
Flesh and Bone-A religious song. Not in your face, like Creed would do it, but quite subtly and nicely. This song is bass driven, like most of the tracks. 10/10
Whisper-Harder, more edgier. I don't think the subject matter pertains to regular people though [it's about record producers.] 9/10
Summer-Corny chorus. Good song. Heartfelt. You could hear the frustration and desperation in Dryden Vera Mitchell's voice. 9/10
Attitude-I get goosebumps when I hear this song. Slow, no guitar pounding. It's such a wonderful song, and it's definitely in my top ten Best Songs Ever list. 10/10
All in all, buy this album. Don't be disillusioned by the fact that they are protegees of Papa Roach. They sound NOTHING like that suck-fest. ANThology is my favourite album. It is not perfect, but it is really damn good. They don't need to curse or spew nonsencical, supposedly "deep" lyrics. They keep it simple, and it works out magnificently. The hidden track is gorgeous as well.

I have been listening to a lot of different bands lately and I am glad I looked these guys up. I like Gorillaz, and I'm not sure if you would put these guys in that genre, but these guys are really good, no matter what genre they are! In the end, this is a great cd!

One day a year or two back I borrowed an album from a friend called 'ANThology' by Alien Ant Farm. Although I slapped my forehead with the lame pun, I gave the music a chance and it blew me away. The guitars are amazing, the bass most noteworthy. The drums aren't astounding, but there are times when they work in perfect unison with the guitars and it's amazing. The vocals are really good. The lead, Dryden Vera Mitchell, seems to know his limitations and works well with his range. The lyrics tend to move from acceptibly average to beautifully deep and sometimes intentionally silly. I think this is due to the band not trying to impress anyone. The songs are good, and the bonus track 'Orange Appeal' is a definate treat.
Their second album, however, was a complete disappointment. The music got bad, the lyrics followed suit. Only the bass is still excellent. If you want to check out Alien Ant Farm, buy 'ANThology'.

I very much doubt I will get another one of this band's albums because this album is enjoyable enough for me. I have also heard "Bug Bytes" which is on the Spiderman 1 soundtrack. While the whole cd can be pretty entertaining, my favorite song is "Movies." I've just personally liked that the most and I'm most familar with it. This band's music is kind of like Alternative Rock/Punk put together, but mostly in the punk genre. If you are a fan of these guys, or if you like this kind of music, I recommend it. Hope this review helped.

First off, I want to give this album a 3.5 stars, not 4.
I saw AAF live a few years ago and had only heard their MTV hyped single 'Smooth Criminal' prior to this show, so I had little to go on. After seeing them in concert, I thought they had a good sound and energy, so I decided to pick up their CD. At first I enjoyed it, but it slowly turned into merely another average rock album.
I am not going to sit here and say "they suck' like you have all seen a million times, because this band does not suck. In fact they have a pretty clean, consistent sound. But none of the songs really sticks out in my mind, which is typically a sign that an album is just 'meh', for lack of a better word.
The guitarist and bassist have moments of semi-greatness, but overall it's nothing to write home about. The vocalist has a pretty good voice, but again, nothing that really makes you stand up and say "whoa!!".
This is an album I think my wife would like - she listens to Matchbox 20, DMB, Counting Crows, etc, so maybe that helps you determine the type of listener that might enjoy this album more. I will admit that I bought this CD when I was into bands along the lines of 311 - since then I have gotten into heavier music, like Mastodon, etc. So my musical interests have changed since I first bought this.
But back to seeing them in concert - they had a really good energy on stage, so maybe you would enjoy them more in this setting than through your stereo.
