The first time you listen to these guys, if you do it blindfolded, you could swear you're listening to Thom Yorke singing to Radiohead's music, but with one big difference: Stereophonics' music is filled with optimism and happiness.
Just check out track #5 and you'll see why these guys (whom I can't understand how they can still NOT be incredibly famous in America!) resemble every bit in the current Brit-Pop scene the role that Yes had in the seventies' Prog Rock scene: bring back optimism, with a full dose of musicianship.

If you had to buy only one CD this year - this is it!
Remember when there used to be great "Records" - as in, the entire colection of songs were amazing. Well, this CD is one of them! There are a lot of great bands who produce great songs (Travis, Oasis, Manic Street Preachers, etc) but so few bands carefully craft every song on a CD any more to make a great CD. But that is exactly what the Sterophonics do. Buy the CD and you'll love every track.
I honestly had never heard of the Stereophonics until a month or two ago. (especially living in the US) Having listened to this CD, they are, by far, my favorite band. What are they like? Mix together Travis and Oasis, and a hint of the Beatles - only add more talent, well crafted songs and truly thoughtful lyrics...and then you have the amazing Stereophonics.
Amazing band, amazing CD. Quite simply, buy it...you can thank me later.

I bought this CD on the strength of have a nice day, mr. writer and step on my old size nines, which i liked the moment i heard them. the rest of the songs take a few listens, but they're great. It's the first Stereophonics album i've bought and i think that they've truly excelled themselves with this, and are one of the rising bands of this decade.

The previous CD, P&C, was a tough act to follow. The Sterophonics created something that was purposefully less hard rockin' to avoid comparisons. The softer melodies and arraignments show how versatile this band truly is.

This is one of the few albums I started listening to and liked right away, then later it got worse. I listened to two songs, and dug the sound and the voice right away. I bought it then I listened to the whole CD and discovered something: the songs are boring. Almost all of them are acoustic and slow, not a bad thing at all but I feel if you choose this route you should have good lyrics to match. The lyrics and wandering and silly at times. The CD has a very relaxed, summery feel, but something about it doesn't work. The singing is awesome, unstrained, unrefined... the best part of the CD by far. It's better than bad, but it isn't good.
