Music : Just Enough Education to Perform

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Very disappointing
After Performance and Cocktails, the Phonics were firmly implanted in my mind as one of the best bands in the world. On Just Enough Education To Perform they lose a large amount of credibility.

Its not that JEEP is bad, its just that its a huge disappointment. Whilst it has four good tracks - Vegas Two Times (the only rock song), Mr. Writer, Watch Them Fly Sundays and Rooftop. These are great, but songs like the awful Have A Nice Day have both poor lyrics ('We'd sit around all day and kill processed fish') and poor music. What happened to Kelly Jones?

Don't get me wrong. I don't hate this album because its virtually all acoustic. After all, I loved the acoustic tracks on Performance + Cocktails. Its because its bad acoustic - whilst songs like A Minute Longer were filled with emotion and were beautiful, many JEEP songs are crude and ugly. If you've heard the awful She Takes Her Clothes Off, the only bad track off PAC, you'll know how most of JEEP sounds.

Please go back and re-evaluate yourselves, guys.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Enjoyable
Thats how I describe this CD. I liked it enough to play it on the stereo at home, but i dont think id take it along as my only CD on a road trip.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - good chill out album
i decided to buy this album on the strength of the two singles they've already released- mr writer and have a nice day and it wasn't the mediocre album i had expected. It has a really nice summery vibe and is a good fusion of pop and indie which so many bands cant seem to pull off so if you're a fairly recent fan of the stereophonics and enjoy the kind of music they've started to get into this albums for you. My only critcism is i think the first and last songs try too hard to be rocky and dont work with the rest of the album. However with 9 out of 11 good songs and a variety instead of the same type of songs over and over again I would recommend you buy this album.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Mighty Impressive
I first listened to this new album by the Stereophonics at some music store & instantly fell in love with tracks 2, 4 & 5. Well at that point I hadn't been paid but come Saturday I was & I immediately bought it straight away. What a fantastic album it is. These guys are producing what really is missing & that's just good Rock 'N' Roll. They will go a long way still & should be regarded as one of the most firm Rock bands today. All in all, it is constantly in my player: from my discman to the stereo in my room I play it over & over again. Yes that's how good it is so buy yourself a copy & enjoy life with this cd. It will make you smile, the lyrics are very well done lads, Cheers! ¦¬Þ

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Cravin' phonics in Alaska!
Allright, perhaps some of the songs on this album are a bit different from those of previous records (the song in my mind the defines stereophonics is Thousand Trees...) but it isn't that big of a let down. Kelly Preston (god, i hope i got the name right! ) still has his awesome voice, and the lyrics are genuinely intelligent. I really like how he left a little blurb inside the cover book w/ the lyrics describing how he came up with them... that's always been a question in my mind!
