2006. First movie by TV director Allen Coulter (Rome, the Sopranos). Not bad. A L.A. private eye tries to discover who killed Ben Affleck who impersonates Superman in a TV show. Just not bad.

"HOLLYWOODLAND" is what was originally spelled out on the Mount Lee. It was an advertising gimmick for a real estate venture. In 1949, the "LAND" was removed. With the "Hollywood" landmark sign destroyed and de-faced many times, it has been restored in 1978 and 2005 for a better glory.

When one thinks about Hollywood, the first things that comes to mind is: fame, beauty and money. But this story will bring out all the worst things in Hollywood: desparation, longing for recognition, need for money, love and success. One can feel nothing but sadness for participants of this co-dependent tribe. We have handsome, talented actor who is torturned about being reduced to a cartoon character in tights. In spite of him being humorous about this situation, he is deeply troubled about being typecast. Then we have rich Hollywood mogul's wife who becomes too demanding and clingy at the point that she makes her lover a kept man. Social climber, young opportunist with hopes of comfortable life and face pretty enough to demand it, finds out that man she imagines to be rich has no money and no prospects of making something out of himself after his Superman career is over. In her disappointment she becomes cruel and uncaring, but still unwilling to leave him. When mysterious death occurs and actor dies from a gun wound, the question comes up if this is a murder or suicide since all of these characters to some extent have motive to rid of him in order to numb their own misery. As they all unravel in their own way we can feel nothing but sadness - for all of them.

Ben affleck has deservedly gotten a bad rap for his acting in some of his past films.i personally feel he has a likeable and watchable quality, even in his bad roles.when i first heard he was going to play the role steve reeves in this film i just couldnt imagine him doing it.but suprise suprise! he really nails it! thats what makes this film so interesting to watch. overall this is awell done interesting and competant film. a step above most of the drek thats out there i enjoyed it and i think you will too. lets just hope that Ben continues to grow as an actor like his buddy matt damon. he definitly shows his potential here.

This came and went in the movie theatres. I have no idea why because it is an excellent movie with four outstanding performances by Adrien Brody, Ben Affleck, Diane Lane and Bob Hoskins.
This is the story about the suicide or murder of George "Superman" Reeves. Brody plays a private investigator trying to unlock the mystery of Reeves death. Ben Afflect plays Reeves in one of his best performances in years.
