'The Science of Things' is at the bottom of the barrel. 'Golden State' along with '6teen Stone' and 'Razorblade Suitcase' are the best albums I own. After the mediocrity of 'The Science of Things', Bush managed to pull themselves up again. It's like they found that missing link and compensated for it. 'Solutions' is a great album opener. Almost too good. I immediately thought, "How are they gonna top this?" But they managed with songs like: 'The People That We Love', 'Superman', 'Inflatable', etc. It's all good. 'Out of This World' alone can carry the album. My favorite song of all time! Get this album and be prepared to be amazed.

Rather than brekaing new ground with "Goldenstate" Bush sound like they've incorporated everything from "Sixteen Stone "Razorbalde Suitcase" and "The Science Of Things" into one album, its a genius.
The guitars have a new buzz to them in which Gavin Rossdale was very pleased with, in which laid to waste the stupid Nirvana comparisons.
TO bad no one noticed, it sold half million, all because "Atlantic records" never bothered to release more than two singles or even promote the album at all.

"Golden State" has a lot going for it. In particular, the first four tracks and closer "Float" are some of the very best songs in the Bush catalogue; I might even nominate "Superman" for best song Gavin Rossdale's written. So far so good...
Unfortunately, the rest of the album doesn't quite rise to the same level. "Out of This World" is a good song taken on its own, but held up next to "Letting the Cables Sleep" it can't help but feel like a somewhat pale retread. Likewise, songs like "Fugitive" and "Land of the Living" are solid, but too formulaic to really get excited about. (Also, "Fugitive" and "Hurricane" are so similar sounding, it's unbelievable that they're sequenced one after another-- you might not even notice the transition.)
I would still definitely recommend picking up "Golden State" on the strength of five absolutely amazing songs and several good ones. It's just not the front-to-back triumph that the first three Bush albums are.

It's a shame Nigel Polsford left the band because this is CD is unbelievable, it's friggin' great. It's as catchy as sixteen stone, as hard as Razorblade Suitcase, and keeps alot of melody like Science Of Things. Rossdale gets better every album, and this one he lets himself go and out does himself. Headful Of Ghosts is awesome and should have been a hit of atlantic records didn't mishandle the album. The People that we love was really the only decent hit on the album. Solutions is a great opener, just like Everything Zen, Personal Holloway and Warm Machine. The ballad Iflatable is easily as good as Letting The Cables Sleep or Bonedriven but only made a brief air play. Every track is cool, and you couldn't as for more in an album. Pick this up now, and prep for Gavin Rossdale's new band Intitute, the new single is on the "Stealth" Soundtrack.
