From the WB's hit series, this soundtrack compiles a great selection of some of the show's best use of music. Fans of the show will inevitably find the album evokes memories of some of the series' powerful moments.
There are a couple of songs in the albums I could do without (namely "Inside Out" and "Nuclear") which is why I can't give this album a 5 star rating, but most of the transitions between the songs are seamless. In particular the swaps between Weezer's "Island In The Sun" to Five for Fighting's "Superman" and Lifehouse's "Everything" to Eva Cassidy's cover for "Time for Time" really clinch this album as a winner for me. Moreover, the album gives a good range from the edgier songs like the theme song "Save Me" and "Wave Goodbye" to oddly upbeat songs like "Lonely Day" and "Island In the Sun". This is a must for fans of the show and a great sampler for those who enjoy great songs from a variety of genres in today's music scene.

A show that was destined to be an absolute hit that again catapults the WB and with the recent loss of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and audiences poised for something new, Smallville burst onto the scene in 2001 and now has it's die hard and addicts (addicts like me mind you). So when I heard this album was coming out, I knew it was a must buy. I have to say the CD itself is absolutely amazing coming from a TV show that is relatively new but I do have some complaints about it. "Save Me" opens the CD and admittedly should since that song opens every episode. "Inside Out" by VonRay is probably the best song on the entire album from a new band and appeared in the second season I remember for sure...amazing is all I can say with the lyrics and gritty guitars and talk about sexy vocals. "Island in the Sun" by Weezer at least to me could have been omitted since it doesn't seem to fit as well with the flow of the album and especially between the songs it is. "Superman" is of course totally appropriate for the album and I've loved it since it first came out. "Nuclear" comes from the second season as well and it's not a bad song at all but then again, not very memorable. "Lonely Day" disappoints me as well and is a second season song as well. "Fight Test" is probably one of the songs that isn't too bad and typical of The Flaming Lips but also a second season song. "Don't Dream It's Over" is a good remake of an 80s song and fits well with the end of the album mood. "Wave Goodbye"is okay but not a great addition on the album. "I Just Wanna Be Loved" isn't too bad but it's not a stand out track either. "Everything"...now seriously, who can forget this song opening the first episode of Smallville and then Whitney and Lana dancing to it in the season finale...very very good song anyways but it's perfect for this soundtrack. "Time After Time" is actually better than the original version and I love how it fits with the storyline so well. Many of the songs make up the album quite nicely but I think the focus on season 2 songs really detracts..I would have liked to see "Breathe"--Greenwheel, "Wherever You Will Go"--The Calling, "Fade"--Staind (with the guy with special powers is memorable), and then another big song I miss is "Angels and Devils"--Dishwalla from early season 2 when Ryan and Clark are in the hot air balloon before Ryan dies. Hopefully we can see another CD in about a year that will top this one and prove amazing just as this one is.

I determine whether I'll buy an album by counting how many songs on it that I like, and this soundtrack to the WB's series about a young Superman has loads of really good music on it.
The songs by Five for Fighting, Sixpence None the Richer, Weezer and the theme by Remy Zero are awesome. If you're a fan of modern pop radio, yet like your selections a bit edgier, then you'll like this album.

I have to say, that this album kicks all kinds of butt. There is one song I would have liked to seen included though. At the end of the Ryan episode where he dies, they play an acoustic version of the Dishwalla song Angels or Devils. The combination of that song and the scene brought tears to my eyes. It was one of the most powerful moments for me in the show.
