Batman: The Animated series is one of those rare shows where everything works. Everything cliqs - and magic just happens.
This series did Batman right. It made him the Dark Knight, and made us utterly forget anybody named Adam West. Dramatic, timeless - and hailed as one of the best interpetations of Batman EVER - you'll simply love this DVD.
This DVD, particuarly, features new villians Batman faces. Batgirl makes her first appearence, and the Immortal Ra's Al Gual makes this grand enterance into Batman's world, becoming Batman's most challenging villian.
This series, in fact, introduced me to such characters like Ra's - making them favorites of my in the comic.
So, if it's so good - why only 4 stars? The special features for this set really stinks. There's a good over-view of how they created and introduced Batgirl - but nothing else. The first 2 Season DVDs probably did indeed use up a lot of the initial behind the scenes - but this disk simply deserved more. Considering Ra's Al Gual is the big villian for the new Batman movie "Batman Begins" - it would have made great sense to do an over-view on him, perhaps even getting Denny O'Niel to talk about his creation. (I would have loved that.)
Perfect series - but lackluster special features leaves me disapointed. Oh - and more commentaries! Only a few are done for each disk - and I really wish they would do it for all. The commentaries are always informative and enjoyable.

This is easily my favorite animated series ever made, and volume three of the collection stands next to the other sets in my collection. The third and final set to this series features a few different things than the previous collections. The first being that they improved the menus on the DvDs, with a slightly improved (if it were possible) theme song. There is the alternate title opening sequence for The Adventures of Batman and Robin, as it was renamed. As for the episodes we get some more of our favorites. There are some very excellent episodes that feature Harley Quinn, as well as several new characters: Bane, Scarface, some awesome episodes with Ra's Al Ghul, and who can forget Batgirl. I know that Batgirl doesn't really excite lots of fans, however the few episodes that feature her are very well done, and not overdone. This final volume also features an episode that I have been looking forward to for a long time--Blind as a Bat. An episode where Batman is temporarily blind due to an explosion, and he has to rely on his other senses to tackle the Penguin. Another thing that I enjoyed from this set was it featured a trailer for the new movie Batman Begins. I can't get enough of this series, and I'm sad to see it end. But it definitely was nice while it lasted.

This third and final collection of original Batman: The Animated Series episodes is a must-have for any Batman fan. The episodes are, of course, brilliant, featuring such classics as "Harlequinade" and "Fire From Olympus". The extras are also a delight. Several episodes (although not as many as the previous two collections) feature commentaries, and one has a rather superfluous and distracting "video commentary". Unfortunately it seems as though the creative team did all the commentaries one after the other, since by the final episode they have nothing of much interest to say. The other features are interesting as well, and the overall packaging is swell.
