This dvd portable functions great. It has everything you need and the swivel screen that allows it to lay flat is awesome. However, do not purchase this dvd portable if you care about how good the picture looks!
The screen resolution is absolutely terrible! Especially in comparison with some cheaper dvd portables from Mintek or Toshiba. I owed this player for a short while because I was led to believe that the screen res was the same as some of the more expensive Panasonic models. It actually says so on the Panasonic website. However, when I took it home and watched something, I was completely dumbfounded by how bad the picture quality was. And I was kicking myself in the pants for not properly checking it out at the store. At least I was able to exchange it.
The most obvious way to see the poor picture quality is to watch any type of animation like Simpsons or Futurama -- you will notice that the picture is very aliased and blocky. You will also notice this whenever you view a dvd menu page with fine graphics.
So be smart about what you buy and don't buy this.

I bought this player primarily to watch DVDs while on flights and it certainly does the job well. The picture quality is excellent and the battery charge lasts long enough to view 2 movies. The battery is not a standard battery, however, and you will have to buy another expensive Panasonic battery if you want a spare but I haven't found this necessary yet. I haven't found any negatives at all with this player other than the proprietary battery, and that is a very minor negative considering the length the charge lasts.

I originally had the Samsung DVD-L75 that is a 7" screen with a 4.2hr battery but had some problems with the DVD drive so I thought I'd "upgrade" to the Panasonic. I'm so disappointed with the picture quality that I'm thinking of exchanging it back for a new Samsung. The picture quality on the Samsung was very bright and sharp that it rivals my Toshiba HDTV. The Panasonic looks like an old 80's tv where you can see the little squares that make up the screen.
Since picture quality is a high priority for me, all the nice features and battery life of the Panasonic isn't enough. Once you see a good quality picture, it's hard to downgrade. If it's your first one, you probably wouldn't notice.

I spent several months of research before I decided on this one which had the best picture for the price. I saw a Philips that I really liked but it was too big (10" screen). I really liked the features of the 8.9" Toshiba but the off-angle viewing was horrible!!! This LS90 has some good features (6 hr battery, car adaptor and good off-angle viewing). The picture quality could be better. . .when viewed up close you can see blocky characteristics, but they disappear when viewed at normal distances.
Overall, very decent.

I shopped eight weeks for a unit. Looked at the so called no-name units but was not sold on them. Really wanted to buy a Sony portable DVD but the price was too expensive. The Panasonic seemed to fit the bill. Nice features such as the six-hour play time. (This is a little deceiving because you have to turn the brightness and color down real low to get the full six hours.) But on a plane you probably can watch two full movies with this playing time. Other nice feature, such as the screen's ability to swivel is a plus. The picture quality is acceptable, audio quality through the tiny speakers is so-so. To remedy the audio problem, I hooked up an external set of Sony speakers (that can run on battery or AC) and the sound is teriffic! The Sony speakers only cost 20 bucks for the pair. You can buy them anywhere. I'm hoping that panasonic will sell additional battery packs (for this particular unit) in the future so I can double the playing time. In conclusion, shopping for a DVD player was time consuming and confusing. You probably won't find the perfect unit unless you buy a expensive lap top, so just go out and buy the Panasonic LS 90. It does the job for me!
