Growing up on Superman comics, I often wondered what Superman's life was like as a boy -- the comics left out much of the detail -- this series provides that detail in a realistic and fascinating way. It shows more of Clark's developing powers, how the Kents continue to protect him, more background on Kal-el, Jor-el, and Krypton, and how Lex Luthor is changing from friend to enemy. This series, as well as the first three seasons, is a believeable portrayal of the young superboy growing up as a teenager in Smallville, while filling in the background details that lead up to his role as an adult Superman. Although there is a time anomaly from the original comics, this series is a "must-see" for anyone who was a Superman fan of the 1950's and 60's. Tom Welling plays the part perfectly.

Getting this set took the longest only because I still didn't get to see much of the show, and because when I did, it wasn't as good as I remember, so I wasn't too enthused. In this season, Lana had an alter-ego who highlighted as a witch that happened to look EXACTLY like her, and had a boyfriend, Jason Teague, that is the son of Genevieve Teague, an archrival witch from what? The 16th or 17th century in France? Oh, okay. Enough said, though it deviated from the Superman mythology itself, especially with her fascination with those stones. As a devoted Smallville fan, this season started to test my patience.
When I bought this season on DVD, my mom only saw the 4th season premiere, when we all saw Clark fly. Yes, he flew! I had been waiting to see that since the third season! She merely glanced at the other episodes in passing, and asked me: "When are they going to come out with the movie? I don't know how much longer they can keep this show up." If anything, I thought they would have already, with him in it. Apparently, that ain't happening. TOM REFUSES TO WEAR TIGHTS!
There's a few positives, though: Chloe finds out about Clark's "secret" powers and keeps them a secret, Lex finds his dark side, and Lois joins the gang as Chloe's cousin, who keeps Clark on his toes. Though this may be a retelling of a story, I didn't think that Lois would meet Lana, but in this season, apparently they do. Since I'm not able to catch much of the fifth season on TV, I might consider buying the DVD set, as I already have these 4 in my collection. This is their senior year, after all!

Show: Football. The Prom. Lois Lane. Lana As A Witch. Doomsday. Thats basically season four in a nutshell. The fun and adventure continue in season four of "Smallville." The main story arc of the season is a quest to find three stones and unite them. The quest to find these three stones involves Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum,) Lionel Luthor (John Glover,) new cast member and Lana's new boyfriend Jason Teague (Jensen Ackles,) Geniveve Teague (Jane Seymour,) and Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk.) However, the person who is destined to unite the stones and save humanity is Clark Kent (Tom Welling.) We also meet Lois Lane (Erica Durance,) and Chloe (Allison Mack) uncovers what could be the story of the century. Season 4 is ultimately a fun season, while not as good as seasons two and three and only slightly better than season one, is still immensly fun to watch. The only weak spot is the character Jason Teague as a whole (I just never liked him.) Many people hated the whole "Lana as a witch" storyline. I actually found this to be quite fun, and Kristin Kruek is majorly sexy as a 17th century witch. The cast members who give the best performances in the fourth season are Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, John Glover, Allison Mack, and Erica Durance. I must say that Lois Lane is a welcome addition to the show, and Tom Welling and Erica Durance have a very appealing chemistry (even though Lois and Clark can't stand each other.) Memorable season four episodes include: "Crusade," "Transference," "Spell," "Unsafe," "Pariah,""Sacred," "Onyx," "Spirit," "Blank," "Ageless," and the awesome season finale "Commencement." (5/5)
Video: The fourth season of "Smallville" sports a fantastic 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. As with the first three seasons, the results are smashing. (5/5)
Audio: The Dolby 2.0 Surround track is excellent. The sound field is completely immsersive. (4/5)
Extras: "Crusade" features a commentary by the producers, Annette O'Toole, and Erica Durance. "Transference" features a commentary by John Glover and the producers. "Spell" features a commentary by Kristin Kreuk, Allison Mack, Erica Durance, and the director of the episode. Again, these are fun and interesting commentaries. The "Spell" commentary is absolutely hilarious.
Other extras include deleted scenes, and the featurettes "Inside The Writers Room" and "Being Lois Lane." The featurettes are entertaining and it is interesting to hear what the other women who have played Lois Lane have to say.
(4/5)
Overall: The fourth season of "Smallville" comes to DVD is another great box set. Do not hesitate to pick up this set. The fun and adventure continue in "Smallville!" (5/5)

Smallville tells the story of superman starting in early high school and how he became the man of steele. The reason why I give it two stars is because the show itself is very stupid , at first the show starts off great giving you addictive characters then the storyline is good too, and so is the acting everybody does great on the show, BUT then the show starts to repeat it's storyline by saying everybodies problems are from meteor rocks and when I mean everybody I mean EVERBODY seen to get infected from the stupid rocks, lex luther seems to cry about his evil father in every freakin episode, then Lana Lang seems to say sorry to clark in almost every freakin episode ,you start to tell yourself this is getting kinda stupid, the show it self never changes no matter how many seasons you buy you'll get the same storyline ,clarke trying to hide his stupid secret and lana saying sorry for this and that.
Another stupid reason why you should not buy this is because you'll never get nothing new meaning a different storyline as well as a good season finale or premere since they never make sense. Please don't waste your money on this crap or I promise your regret it
