The clock display does not match the photo above. The dark (background) area is actually lit up (a darker blue than the clock numerals) and it lights up the entire room at night. Audio quality is loud and clear, pretty good for the price.

Don't buy this alarm clock! This CD alarm clock was a huge disappointment for me.
Things I like about this clock:
1. Big snooze button
2. Styling is decent
Things I hate about this clock:
1. Illegible in the dark -- the portions of the display AROUND the numbers are so bright that there isn't enough contrast between the "background" and the numbers. As a result, the numbers are illegible at night.
2. Blindingly bright in the dark -- Even on the "dim" setting, the display will blind you if you try to view it in the dark.
3. The labels for the various alarm settings (on, off, auto, buzzer) are misaligned with the slider switch that controls them. When you adjust the switch to the "on" position, the alarm is actually off. When you adjust the switch to the "off" position, the alarm is actually on "auto", etc. A nightmare.
4. The alarm functions are ridiculously complicated to set. Want to wake up to the sound of your favorite CD? Be sure to keep handy the owner's manual to remind you of the seven-step procedure you need to follow to set the alarm to play a CD.
Not worth the money. Not worth any money, in fact. It's on its way to the Salvation Army.

I love the blue LED and have a hard time finding what I want that has it. The brightness could be more variable for better tolerance. I don't like it that both FM & AM settings change at the same time. I wish it would retain the last setting in whichever frequency it is in. It would be better if the CD lid was spring loaded with a pushbutton release to open. The sleep button utility works nice but could be better if it retained the last setting it started at. Overall the improvements are just ones that would make it quicker & easier to use. I'm not one to use very many 9-volt batteries and it would've been easier to use AA batteries instead. If the 9-volt is better for some reason that I don't know of as of yet then so be it. The lid needs to rise higher so that the CD is accessed better & easier inside.

Although the price for the alarm with CD player is low, its flaws are really bad. First of all this alarm is giant.
This clock alarm is almost the size of regular CD player. It can barely fit on the shelf near my bed. Its display is huge and super-bright. The good part is that I don't need to use night light anymore, because this alarm is a good substitute for one.
Even though I'm not picky, the sound this unit delivers is really bad.
The worst part is that only after 2 month of use some buttons on this alarm already don't work. When alarm goes off I sometimes need to unplug it from the outlet or it won't stop. Is not it too early considering that my old alarm clock broke after 5 years of use?
UPDATE: This alarm has its own personality. It goes off only when it feels like it. The same applies to some bottons. They don't work.

even though this radio is cheap, I still expected something, anything, and what I got is an extra bright night light that keeps my gf up, and as a consequence i'm looking for another decent alarm. Did i mention it runs slow for me? It slows about 1 min per day, which is not a good feature in an alarm clock
