This is definately THE best TV series that was airing in the early days of television! As did another reviewer, I started getting the VHS set of The Adventures Of Superman from ColumbiaHouse. In my case, though, I never opened a single one of the eventual 17 tapes that I was suckered into buying. I say that, because from the first, I made it clear I was interested in the DVD format and ColumbiaHouse personnel kept assuring me, month after month, for more than a year, that they would have a DVD format ready for release in just a little while longer; they also assured me that I would be able to swap the tapes out for the DVD's without incurring additional expense. The cost of those tapes was really way overpriced and after receiving tape #17 (which represented 51 episodes, only 3 per tape), I realized that they were never going to fulfill their promises...and I had spent close to $275! Had I not kept good records and received a return authorization for an open number of tapes, I would have been very upset. I shipped the tapes, using their provided return shipping label and the package came back after about 3 weeks; I told UPS I refused receipt and they sent it back...phoned ColumbiaHouse, spent some time arguing about the whole affair, told them they could return them to me as many times as they wanted, but I would simply refuse to accept them every time. Long story short, they took receipt of the package when it got to them and I received a refund of my entire payments made for all 17 tapes! They did well, eventually.
While the tapes were in transit, I found a Canadian outfit that sells many vintage TV shows, including The Adventures of Superman, all on DVD! This set is the COMPLETE series that consists of 115 episodes in their entirety; each episode is also in the exact sequence that they were released! I noticed, looking over the list of episodes provided by another user of this First Season set of TAOS here on Amazon (of course, it's the publisher, not Amazon!) and found that there are about 3-5 missing episodes. :( But, maybe these are simply not in complete order and they will show up in future sets. I'll still give them 5 stars, though, since even these new sets, regardless of the fact they may be short some episodes, will bring a lot of childhood memories and even better, the actual childhood feelings we experienced when watching them decades ago for the first time!! That's something you don't usually get to reexperience once so many years have passed. :) If you've never seen this TV series, I think you'll enjoy watching them - they really aren't that corny, at least not as corny as many of the SciFi B movies out at the same time were. If you have a family member that likes SciFi and they are over 50, this would make a great gift! You really won't be disappointed in any event. :)

As a youngster growing up in New York in the late 1960's the adventures of superman has always remained one of my fondest childhood memories. In 1968 I moved to Italy with my parents and for the past 37 years I haven't been able to watch these episodes on TV. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the first season, what a treat. Such scenes where superman jumps in the sky from an alleyway or when he lands in a room through a window are even more realistic than many modern day superman movies.George Reeves will always be remembered for his superb impersonation of the man of steel and his kind manners are reflected in the character he portrayed. He will not be forgotten

I am one of the "baby boomers" that has fond memories of The Adventures of Superman on WPIX, channel 11 in New York during the 60's. Purchased the Columbia House VHS tapes, but they had no extras and only 60 or so episodes were available. Nice to see that the second season is coming out and hope they released the last two season as swiftly. These shows have a charm that is sadly missing today, and I cannot wait to have a complete set.

I have just finished watching part of the FIRST season on DVD and was totally delighted! The filmed episodes are FULLY restored! No glinches, no breaks, sound is excellent! This is a godsend for us "baby boomers"! I can only hope that the quality continues, or like my friend Jim Nolt would say, "The ADVENTURE Continues!!!" Way to go warner! I'm pre-ordering TODAY!!!
